Barangay Banilad got its name from Banilad Tree that abounds the area before the Spanish

time
and before it was developed as a barrio. Old folk gave different version of where it got its name.
They believed that it came from the word “tilad”, a concoction of buyoleaf, a pinch of lime or
apog power, 1/4 size of bungat nut and tobacco leaf, chewed as is believed to have therapeutic
value. During the Spanish time it was called “Banilad Friar Lands”.

Living in a nuclear family is the norm in today's fast-paced, materialistic world. This definition
suggests that a nuclear family consists of parents and their child(ren) living together under one
roof,  without other relatives living with them under the same roof. It requires that the parents
take complete responsibility for running the home and taking care of the family. Parents are free
to decide on shared responsibilities in the household.  Doing chores and activities together is a
great way to bond, extend support and be equally involved in family matters. It makes everyone
in the family feel responsible and understand how interdependent they are on each other.

Banilad Mandaue City is an urban community. Urban areas as everyone knows offers services,
entertainment, jobs, medical services and on and on in close proximity. There are often roads of
a better quality and well-built houses in urban areas, the transport facilities are highly developed
and it can be faster to get from place to place in a city or town. Due to better public transport,
you can save money on a car. Most amenities and entertainments are also easy to reach. Clubs,
restaurants and cinemas are more prolific in these busier areas and you often find new attractions
will open in a city before anywhere else. Hospitals and clinics are close by for easy access to
healthcare or aid in an emergency. Cities and towns tend to have a greater mix of cultures and
ethnicities which can help when making new friends and meeting people. Lastly, there are a
greater number of jobs available in urban areas, starting a new career could be far easier if you
move to a town or city.
