Sit comfortably or recline. You will receive minimal benefit if you merely play a Paraliminal in the background; do not listen while driving or operating machinery. TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW There are two types of dreams: regular dreams we have during each sleep cycle and lucid dreams. Regular dreams provide important neurological functions for the maintenance of physical and mental health. Session A helps you work with your regular dreams to increase the benefits you receive from them. You learn to make sense of the symbolic language in your dreams that communicate deeper messages to your conscious mind. You program the mind to provide you with specific dreams for personal development, problem solving, and accelerative leaming. During the dream state you will gain access to the inner mind and receive help in accomplishing goals. Session B helps you develop lucid awareness from within your dreams. As you learn to recognize dreams upon wakening, you may develop lucid dreaming. Lucidity is recognizing you are in a dream and being able to creatively interact with your dream world. This skill can help you increase your abilities in the waking world. 8 At the end of each session of Dream Play you can decide whether to remain in a relaxed state and drift into sleep or return to full alertness at a rate that is comfortable. Ideally, play the session so that you let yourself slip into the sleep and dream state gently. BEST WAY TO USE The simple act of listening to the vocies in both ears will help to bridge the two sides of the brain. It also strengthens your connection to your dreaming mind and heightens your resolve for increased lucidity during your dream state. We recommend that you listen to one session of Dream Play each night for several weeks. Consistent dream recall and familiarity with your dreams will naturally lead to greater lucidity during your dream state. Programming your mind for lucid dreaming will take you to the final step. Here are additional ideas that can help: * Before sleeping, drink a glass of water and instruct your mind with clear directives that you will remember your dreams upon awakening. ° Whenever you wake during sleep, your first thought should be “What was I just dreaming?” Lie still and remember the striking elements of the dream. Remain awake for several minutes. Freely think about what the dream could mean. Thinking about your dream fixes it in memory and lets you tap into the larger meaning of the dream. You may want to jot notes on paper to help your recall. 9 * It is best to wake up from a full sleep naturally without a disruptive alarm or radio. If you think you need an alarm to awaken, program your mind to awaken without an alarm. Before sleep, tell yourself the time you desire to awaken and visualize awakening at that time and beginning your day feeling great. Upon awakening, lie quietly, minimize movement, and avoid distractions. Remain wrapped in the after-glow of the dream experience. Reflect inwardly to allow dream feelings or images to surface. POSSIBILITIES FOR GOING BEYOND Dreams are attempts at discovering solutions to unresolved challenges you encounter during the day. They register tensions in your life and explore resources you have developed to cope with them. As you learn more about dreaming, you’ll gain tools for coping and resolving problems. It is natural to forget a dream, especially when the dream confronts an important life issue, When the conscious mind is ready to cope with meanings embedded in a dream, in most instances, you will remember the dream and understand its significance. Working with your dream consciously can help you resolve issues. Be patient and persistent as you develop your awareness and work with directing your dreams. Mastery of your dream world comes with experience. Mastering your dream world brings a new level of mastery in your outer world. 10 Before you drift off to sleep, instruct your mind with clear directives to remember your dreams upon awakening. Consistent dream recall and familiarity with your dreams will naturally lead to greater lucidity during your dream state. Programming your mind for lucid dreaming will take you to the final step. ——3 A technique for lucid dreaming was developed at the Stanford Sleep Research Laboratories by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D. To gain lucid awareness during dreams you must recognize that you are in the process of dreaming. Here is how: 1) During the early morning when you awaken spontaneously from a dream, go over the dream several times until you have it memorized. 2) While lying in bed and returning to sleep, say to yourself, “Next time I’m dreaming, I want to remember to recognize I’m dreaming.” 3) Imagine yourself as being back in the dream just rehearsed; only this time, feel the realization that you are aware of yourself in the dream. 4) Repeat steps two and three until you feel your intention is clearly fixed or until you fall asleep. This simple technique combined with the Dream Play Paraliminal session will greatly enhance your access to your inner genius each night while sleeping and every time you awaken. 4 INSIDE SECRETS | Research studies as far back as 1917 have shown that the brain naturally uses dreams to process information it receives nonconsciously. When you remember dreams, you establish communication between your conscious and nonconscious mind. Remembering your dreams gives you more conscious access to the data bank residing in the normally offline regions of the brain. At first, notice any small snippet of your dream experience when you first awaken. Research has shown that the more frequently you remember dreams and the clearer and more detailed you reconstruct your dream images, the more likely you are to lucid dream. Because your intention plays the most important role in dream recall, if you want to remember your dreams, you will. For many people the motivation to remember and a reminder to themselves of their intention at bedtime are sufficient. To strengthen your resolve, keep pen and paper beside your bed, and create a few notes of your dreams every time you wake. Another method for remembering dreams is asking yourself each time you wake, “What was I dreaming?” This must be your first thought on awakening; otherwise, you may forget some or all of the dream. 12 Be patient with yourself. Forgetting to pay attention to the dream state is typical for most people. When you awaken, do your best to lie perfectly still while you are wrapped in the glow of your dream experience. Keep your thoughts softly on the dream. Pieces and fragments of the dream will come to you. Examining your thoughts and feelings as you remain in bed often provides the necessary cues for retrieving your entire dream. Even if you recall nothing of your dreams at first, persist. ADDITIONAL NOTES: Nightmares are regular dreams with the volume turned up to get our attention, Tf we routinely dismiss its communications, our inner mind will keep raising the emotional energy level until we get it at a conscious level. There is no need to fear nightmares, anymore than you would fear a mental reminder. Not dealing with life issues is potentially far more hazardous than facing a dream or a nightmare. Once you consciously acknowledge the communication from your nonconscious dreaming mind, nightmares dissipate. Recurrent dreams are spontaneously generated to help us resolve current life issues.
