Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a person’s ability to identify, understand and successfully

manage their own emotions and other persons emotions and how to act towards it. EI is a
going process and must be taken care of. EI helps to build relationships, reduce team stress,
reduce conflict and improve job satisfaction. EI is crucial for everyone who wants to be
career ready and a successful leader.

Self-awareness - Being self-aware is the first step to personality development. Its about
learning to have better understanding why and what we feel about the happenings around and
how it affects life and career. Thru self-awareness, we are able to know our strengths and
weaknesses as well as self-confidence. It gives us and opportunity to change and enable us to
create a life we want. Self-awareness is a combination of both emotional intelligence and
success. It’s basically a self-guidance to move in the right path towards being a successful
leader. Self-awareness allows us to make decisions as well as interact with others in a better
way.

Self-management - Being able to manage mood swings and irritation while communicating
with others. A good leader has to be able to manage their behaviour and emotions in a more
conscious and more productive way in handling the subordinate. Self-management leads to
more exciting opportunities. Through self-management skills such as reliability, time
management, trustworthiness, adaptability and conscientiousness a leader is able to remain
calm and handle any situation in a more composed way. This allows the employees to have
better trust towards their leaders.

Self-motivation - Self motivation is a decision to be able to develop into a habit. Highly


motivated leaders are more focused in their management skills and follow a more disciplined
routine. They set their goals and move towards it and look for ways to have a good working
environment for the subordinates. A self-motivated leader will have a strong and trusting
relationships with subordinates and be able to work effectively and efficiently towards
reaching company goals.

Emotional Intelligence is important in our lifestyle. It helps an individual to build stronger


relationship leading to a successful life. Leaders with high emotional intelligence have good
relationship with their subordinates and have motivated team members as it allows them to
inspire others in a positive way.
