MORENA

(My story as a morena)

*@$#&!!! mukha kang uling
negra HAHA haha

HALLA! Maganda ka sana

ang itim kaso maitim ka
niya

When I was a kid, I experienccd being called “Negra”, “Uling”, “itim”. Being labeled as
“Panget” just because of my dark skin. Sometimes i just ignore them but still, deep inside
It hurts. It takes a lot of courage for me not to hold a grudge in this situation but with
the guide of God, i did.
nawawala ka pala sa
dilim hahaha

whenever it’s dark, they say I disappear because I was too dark for them to see, I blend well
in the dark. they also said I should bought a flashlight so that they can see me in the dark
when I was young, I’ve always thought that the lighter your skin, the prettier you are.
People who have light skin on T.V. were always portrayed as beautiful, pretty, or gorgeous.
they were always the star of the show or the main character on movies.
That’s why when got older,I also tried alot of whitening products and remedies to stop
the bullying and to be as pretty like the other girls on TV, but it didn’t worked. For the
past years, this society taught us that the standard o beauty is based on having a lighter
or fair skin color . Colorism still real in this Generation.
Maganda ka sana
mukha kang uling
kaso maitim ka
haha

Gwenita HALLA!
haha ang itim
Nita niya
Negrita!!!

As I grew up, I’ve met a lot of morenas too who have the same problems like me. I
also saw some influencers is social media who empower men and women to embrace
their own skin color. They inspired me to embrace my perfect imperfections and to
not listen to hateful comments of other people.
Mainstream media and
represatation is a huge
factor on why most of us
have the “lighter is better”
mindset. That’s why I’m so
happy we have mainstream
local actresses nowadays who
have brown skin and that
there’s morediversity to new
movies and shows. But
ofcourse we don’t have to see
our traits on TV for it to be
beautiful.
As a christian, I would like to
have the courage to spread
awareness to every one to embrace
the things or characeristics that
God has given us.
I truly believe that all skin colors
are beautiful.

The crazy thing is that people with

dark skin want to be lighter and
people with white skin want to be
tan.

I think we just need to appreciate

and embrace what we already
have jut a little bit more.
