This article talks about the difference between dark skin actors and light skin actors in the black
community. Author Rosalind Cummings Yeates perpetuates how colorism is used the most in the
Black T.V show Empire. The article revolves around this show in particular because the main
cast is are light skinned and the roles that they play are high end, high positioned roles. As for
the shows supporting cast, the majority of them are dark skin actors playing roles that are not as
important as the roles portrayed by the light skin actors. To add on, the way that the characters
portray by the dark skin actors are treated is very different compared to roles made for light
skins. In the article, some of the characters in the show are usually yelled at, talked down or
dehumanized by their boss or chief chairman in the show. Lastly, Cummings starts to back
track and compare colorism it to slavery black history. Slaves were originally Africans of
melanin who were tooke in from Europeans and were either abused, sold or raped. With that

Lovely revolves around the writer's thoughts and opinions based on the controversial issue
between the dark skin Aunt Viv and the light skin Aunt Viv. The writer first puts their
thoughts on how they felt about this controversy. At the time, the TV show Fresh Prince of Bel
Air casted a dark skin Aunt Viv until they decided to change the casting. To add on, Awesome
Lovely elaborated more on the difference in the characters when the producers decide to replace
the dark skin Aunt Viv. Dark skin Aunt Viv had a lot of personality. She was strong willed,
fierce and she taught the kids a lot of life learning lessons. As for the light skin Aunt Viv, the way
they wrote the script for her was different. She wasn't as outgoing as the original Aunt Viv, and

single person, who happens to be dark skinned from the group of couples. What raised issue on
this was that these were African American couples and all the other girls were light skinned.

someone like dark skin legendary model, Naomi Campbell who never had success over night.
