Advanced tramming

Long distance tramming

The drill drill rig has mainly been designed to tram shorter distances between the different drill
spots. Tramming long distances requires extra care and preparation, in order to ensure safety and
durability. Some of the steps mentioned in this segment is not included in the simulator.

Tower
The tower must be lowered when tramming distances outside the drill pattern, or when tramming
over rough or uneven ground. Keep in mind that the machine must be leveled using the jacks be-
fore the tower may be raised or lowered.

Tracks
The tracks are sensible for rocks and debris and must be cleaned before tramming a long dis-
tance.

Time limitation
You may only tram in 20 minute segments. For each time you have been tramming for 20 min-
utes, you must stop the machine and check the temperature of the rollers before proceeding. The
temperature should be checked by using a temperature gun. Do not touch the rollers with your
hands, as the rollers may be hot.

If it is not possible to step out of the machine to check the temperature of the rollers, i.e. when
tramming on a haul road, it is recommended to let the machine rest for 10 minutes for each 20
minute of tramming.

Please note
When tramming a PV 271 for long distances, it is advised the second rod is stowed in
the carousel and the “bit in head, head at middle tower” function is used.

1. To activate this function, the following conditions must be met:

a. The rotary head is located in the middle of the tower with first rod installed.
b. The rod support arm is closed. The RCS program does not require the rod
support jaw to be closed but it is recommended that the jaw is closed to add
extra support to the drill rod.
c. The breakout wrench is in the un-stowed condition.
2. Activate the “bit in hole, head at middle tower” function in the F2 parameter
screen.
3. Unlock the vertical pins and lower the tower to rest position. Press the tramming
mode button, the “bit in hole, head at middle tower” function will need to be se-
lected again because the overrides are deactivated when changing between operat-
ing modes.
