RTW Timing Relays

Ideal for applications such as industrial processes, automation and motor starters, RTW timing relays switch an output contact
based on a selected function and time. These relays are available in many timing ranges, adjustable from 0.1 second to 150
hours, with 9 different functions.

RPW Monitoring Relays

RPW monitoring relays are a competitive choice of voltage monitoring for protection against the most common types of
electrical failures. Voltage monitoring in electrical installations is very important for reasons: phase loss, overvoltage, phase
sequence and undervoltage. Phase loss and overvoltage can cause machinery and motors to overheat reducing their lifetime.
Phase sequence inversion can cause machinery to run in the wrong rotating direction, and undervoltage may occur causing
machinery to run in an undefined range. With five different functions, the RPW series is ideal to be used in motor control
applications.

RNW Level Relays

The WEG Level Relays are electronic control devices that enable the monitoring and automatic adjustment of the level in electric
current liquid conductors. Widely used in reservoir automation, the RNW relays can be used in several applications as the
prevention of dry pumps, tank overflow, activation of solenoids or alarms.

Overview
Multifunction Relays

ERWT - Multifunction Timing Relays

WEG multifunction timing relays have eight timing functions included in a
single relay. With two different models it is possible to achieve up to 16
functions. These two product references have the most commonly used
timing functions in the market. The ERWT has an SMPS (Switch Mode
Power Supply) that can operate in a wide voltage range from 24 up to
240 V ac/dc.

It is possible to choose one of the eight functions desired in each relay

reference using the front selector switches. The required time selection
is made in a quick and easy way, through the front switches. The ERWT
allows selection from 0.1 second up to 10 days through two selector
switches in front of the relay. The first selector switch is used to set the
reference with absolute values and the other to define the multiplier to
set the required value accurately. The ERWT line is an excellent choice
to reduce the stock keeping unit and increase product applications on
site.

Timing relays have two output SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw)
contact types that have a visual indication through two red LEDs, which
identify the state relay outputs. Indication of energized relays is made
through the activated green LED that flashes when the timing is in
progress.

To facilitate assembly all ERW line were developed with a width of

22.5 mm, allowing compact combinations of motor starters. These
relays can be easily assembled on panels using 35 mm DIN rails or
screws, with PLMP adaptors for fixing relays on mounting boards.

ERWM - Multifunction Monitoring Relays

The ERWM line of WEG multifunction monitoring relays was created for
low-voltage networks on three-phase SMPS that can operate in a wide
voltage range from 208 to 480 V ac (50/60 Hz). The voltage range is
selectable through a front switch that defines the voltage level the relay
will monitor. A frontal green LED gives a visual indication that the relay is
connected and monitoring the network.

There are five different functions integrated into a single relay that can
be defined through the front switches, allowing the user to select the
level of protection required and the time delay to operate. It is possible
to monitor failures of phase loss, phase sequence, undervoltage and
overvoltage, unbalance and neutral detection to protect three-phase
systems using the Multifunction Monitoring Relays.

ERWM relays have an SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw) output contact
type which indicates its status of output contact via a red LED.
Additionally, there is a bicolor LED that indicates the status of the
functions: constant green indicates no faults, flashing green indicates
time count and flashing red indicates fault occurred.

RE / PE / CID / CIL / RD ET The RTW multi timing relay has two front
selectors which have to be set in order to
define the right timing.
0.1s - 10min
First, the user needs to select the time
0.1s - 10min scale through the time scale selector.

The other front selector is used to select

0.2s - 150h
the multiplier. The timing is the result of the
multiplication of these 2 values.
Example: RTW-RD Note: At each timing adjustment of the multi timing relay, the user needs to reset the product.
Changes of the timing are not effective when the relay is timing.

Multifunction

Red LED Supply voltage U/T

R1
Green LED Output contact closed R2

The ERWT multifunction relay also has 2 front

ERWT - MF1 / MF2
selectors to adjust the required timing from
0.1s to 10 days.
For those functions available in the MF1 model
0.1s - 10 days
it is necessary to set 1 timing while in the MF2
model, the customer needs to set 2 timings.

Example: ERWT-MF1 Note:The function needs to be selected before energizing the relay.
Changes of the timing are not effective when the relay is timing.

Monitoring Relays
WEG RPW Relays are electronic devices that protect three-phase systems against phase loss or selectable neutral loss (RPW FF),
phase sequence inversion (RPW SF) or both of the functions integrated into the same product (RPW FSF). Whenever there is
failure in the three-phase system, the relay will work to interrupt the motor of process operation to be protected.
Designed in accordance with international standards, the RPW Monitoring Relays offer a compact and competitive solution,
with 22.5 mm wide housing for assembly on 35 mm DIN rail.

RPW-SF - Phase Sequence

The Phase Sequence Relay is designed to protect three-phase systems against phase
sequence inversion (L1-L2-L3).
Functioning: on connecting the relay to the supply with the phase sequences correctly
connected, the output relay switches the contacts to operation position (closing
terminals 15-18) and the red LED turns on. When a phase sequence inversion occurs,
the output contacts will become de-energized (opening 15-18) and the red LED will
turn OFF.

RPW-PTC - PTC Monitoring

The RPW-PTC relay is an electronic device used for protection against high temperatures on
machines such as motors and generators. The temperature measurement is given by a PTC
detector (usually resistors in series) which increase its resistance depending on the
temperature where it is installed.
Designed in accordance with international standards, the RPW PTC offers a safe and
compact solution, with standardized 22.5 mm boxes for assembly in DIN rail 35 mm.
Operation: the PTC relay measures the total resistance of the PTC detectors assembled on
the motor/generator windings. When the temperature reaches the threshold value, this
resistance value rapidly increases and the relay switches OFF its output contacts.
The relay will be able to reset only when the temperature goes down to normal values.
Additionally, the WEG PTC relay provides PTC detector testing feature. In case of failure of
the PTC detectors, the frontal green LED will be flashing. This characteristic indicates that the
PTC detectors are either open or in short-circuit condition (20 Ω or less).

Main applications:

JJ Heavy duty starting

JJ Variable speed drives

ERWM - Multifunction Monitoring Relays

ERWM-VM1 / VM2
The ERWM is a relay design for low networks with three phase supply voltage in order to monitor the voltage and connecting
the switchgear provided it is within the user selected parameters. Whenever there is a fault condition the relay will change its
output to interrupt the motor operation or supervised process.

Installation
The ERWM relay is directly connected to power grids through the L1, L2 and L3 terminals that monitoring
three phase system. In those cases, when the neutral is availability it can be connected to the relay to
detect the availability of this conductor in the power system.

Operation
When the voltage connected to the L1, L2 and L3 terminals is according the the selected parameters, the
output relay is connected (closed contact 15-18). If the supply voltage monitored is falling outside the
defined operating range, the output relay (opening of contact 15-18) is disconnected. The outputs relay
reconnects when the voltage back to the selected levels.

Level Relays - RNW

The WEG Level Relays are electronic control devices that enable the monitoring and automatic adjustment of the level in
electric current liquid conductors. Widely used in reservoir automation in general, the RNW relays can be used in several
applications such as the prevention of dry pump operation, monitoring against filling tank overflow, activation of solenoids or
alarms / lighting.
The operating principle is based on the measuring of the electrical resistance of the reservoir liquid through an assembly of
electrodes that work as liquid presence / absence sensors. To optimize their performance, the relay has a sensitivity DIAL
enabling the electronic circuit to be adjusted to the liquid resistance.
Available in 2 distinct functions, RNW EN filling and RNW ES draining, the relay offers digital electronics that provide high
precision, repeatability and noise resistance. The supply system is isolated from the electronic circuit therefore ensuring greater
user safety. Designed in accordance with international standards, the RNW offers a safe and compact solution, in 22.5 mm
wide housing for assembly on 35 mm DIN rail, with 1 output with NO/NC reversable contact and an wide voltage supply range
of 100-240 V ac/ V dc.

Available in the following functions:

JJ RNW EN → Filling
JJ RNW ES → Draining

ES - Draining

Functioning
The electrodes are fixed in the reservoir according to desired
levels for control, minimum or maximum, and the reference
electrode (C) must be positioned in the lower part, below the
other electrodes, maximum level electrode (Max) and inimum
level etectrode (Min). When the system is energized an
alternating current (the AC current minimizes the electrolysis Máx. electrode
Máx. electrode
and increases the life span of the electrode) is applied to the
reference electrode, once the liquid comes into contact with
the level electrodes a path is established for the circulation of
electrical current between the electrodes. An electronic Min. electrode
current compares the current and according to the chosen Min. electrode

model (RNW ES or RNW EN) a logic will occur that switches

the relay output contacts. The electrodes are available in 2 C electrode
C electrode
models, shaft (EHW) or pendulum (EPW), the difference
between them is the way of fixing. In order to adapt the Pendulum type Shaft type

several applications the RNW is available in two distinct

functions, draining and filling. Note: the EHW can be fixed both horizontally and vertically.

Electronic Relays 27

RNW EN (Filling)
Controls 2 levels using the 3 electrodes, the reference electrode (C), the maximum level
electrode (Max) and the minimum level electrode (Min). Once supplied the RNW EN monitors
the liquid level in the reservoir, with the electrode being uncovered at minimum level Min, the
output relay will become energized (terminals 15-18 closed) causing the liquid level to rise.
When the reservoir liquid covers the Max level electrode, the relay goes into a state of rest
(terminals 15-18 open) and thus remains until the Min level electrode is discovered again.
If there is a relay supply failure when resupplying the RNW EN monitors the liquid level and
restart its initial logic.

RNW ES (Draining)
Controls 2 levels using the 3 electrodes, the reference electrode (C), the maximum level
electrode (Max) and the minimum level electrode (Min). Once supplied the RNW ES checks
the liquid level in the reservoir, with this being in contact with the Max level electrode, the relay
will become energized (terminals 15-18 closed), causing the reservoir liquid level begin to
drop. Once the Min level electrode is uncovered by the liquid the relay will switch to rest status
(terminals 15-18 open) and will thus remain until the liquid enters into contact again with the Max
level electrode, restarting the process. If there is a relay supply failure when resupplying the RNW
ES verifies the liquid level and restarts its initial logic.

Applications

Characteristics
Sensitivity Adjustment
Liquid resistance can vary according to the resistance of the liquid in
question and the position of the electrodes. To adapt the relay electronic
circuit to the liquid used, sensitivity must be adjusted through the DIAL,
located in the front part of the RNW, which has a graded scale without
values.
To perform the sensitivity adjustment, all electrodes must be submersed in
the reservoir liquid and the DIAL positioned at its limit anti-clockwise (less
resistance). With the relay energized the DIAL must be turned clockwise
(greater resistance) until the relay output switches its contacts (the red LED
must change status). To confirm the adjustment, the reference electrode C
must be disconnected and then quickly reconnected, the relay must return
to its previous status of de-energization. If this does not happen, a new
adjustment must be performed. By doing this the RNW will be adjusted to
the ideal sensitivity point.
