QUIZ #2

Name: MYKRISTIE JHO B. MENDEZ Year Level and Section: 2-A

1. Is it really required to confess your sins to a priest? Why? Support your answers by
giving evidences.

Yes, absolutely, because we are all sinners. According to Scripture, if we say that
we have no sin in us, we are deceiving ourselves and refusing to admit the truth; but if
we acknowledge our sins, then God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and
purify us from everything that is wrong. (1:8-9. When a priest repents a person's sin, he
is the face of God's mercy and the community's representative. He serves as a conduit
for God's mercy and forgiveness.

Furthermore, Jesus instituted the sacrament of penance. He said, “If you forgive
the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (Jn
20:23, NRSV).

These are some of the justifications why we should confess our sins to a priest,
who will wipe the slate clean, absolving us of our sins and enabling us to start over.
This provides the sinner a huge sense of relief.

2. Can a priest ordains another priest? Yes/no? Support your answer.

Certainly not. Only the Bishop has the authority to ordain, as he is the legitimate
minister of ordinations with the Holy See's consent. Bishops possess the priesthood in
its entirety.

3. Can the pope confess his sins directly to God? Explain your answer.

The Roman Catholic Church is led by a prelate known as the Pope, who is the bishop
of Rome. He is nevertheless regarded a human person because, as part of man's nature,
he commits sins. They are unable to absolve themselves, and he will require the
assistance of another priest.
Moreover, Jesus gave the power to forgive sins to Peter, to the Apostles and to their
successors, when he said: I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you
bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be
considered loosed in heaven (Mt. 16:19. This is one of the reasons why we have a relevant
authority to confess our sins to rather than directly to God.
4. What are the obligatory days that Catholics are required to attend mass? Is it
OBLIGED to receive Holy Communion every mass?

Every Sunday and on all feast days of obligation (stated below), all Christians must
attend Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion at least once a year, at Easter. Those
who regularly attend the Eucharist will receive a plethora of materials and spiritual
blessings from the Lord.

These are the obligatory days:

December 25- Christmas Day
September 8- Birthday of Immaculate Conception
December 8- The Feast of the Immaculate Conception
January 1- The Feast of Mary

Yes, with one exception: we must obtain the sacrament of confirmation before attending
mass because we cannot absorb Christ's body unless we are in a state of grace. When we
receive the flesh of Christ while in mortal sin, a new sin called sacrilege is constituted.
