Earth Science Unit Topic: Our Solar System

By: Jody Paramore Winterville, NC

1. Do they offer a variety of activities for all learning styles?

a. Yes, this lesson plan offers multiple activities for different learning styles. They have
activities that work with flashcards and vocab, online activities, and hands-on activities.
This lesson provides activity options to meet the needs of students different learning
styles.
2. Do they all work toward achieving the overall goal of the lesson plan?
a. In the beginning of the lesson plan, the objectives are clearly stated. For each objective,
this lesson plan offers a variety of activities. The overall goal of the lesson is to gain
information about the solar system, and I believe with these activities and layers, the
students will reach the goal.
3. What could be done better or added activities?
a. In layer B it offers students to either build a model of the solar system or to answer
questions on a worksheet. I feel like if all students built the model of the solar system,
the teacher would have a better representation of who has reach proficiency.
4. Are the activities in the appropriate layer or would you move some to other layers?
a. I believe that all activities are in the appropriate layer. Each layer is labeled either A, B,
or C with the corresponding activities listed beneath it. Layer C has the most options for
activities. To move onto the next layer, one must earn a certain amount of completion.

Unit: Force

Physical Science

1. Do they offer a variety of activities for all learning styles?

a. This lesson plan offers activities from watching videos to creating PowerPoints. I do
believe that this lesson plan offers a variety of activities for all learning styles. If students
prefer to watch movies and fill out work sheets, they can. If students prefer to make
PowerPoints that demonstrate their learning, they can.
2. Do they all work toward achieving the overall goal of the lesson plan?
a. I noticed there are five different goals for this lesson plan. Each activity states which goal
it is working towards. Therefore, I do believe that all of the activities work towards
achieving the overall goals of the lesson.
3. What could be done better or added activities?
a. I feel like a lot of the activities in this lesson involve using worksheet or writing. To
improve this lesson, I would want to include more hands-on activities that help the
student demonstrate his/her understanding of the goal. Making more models or
physically showing the concept may help more learners.
4. Are the activities in the appropriate layer or would you move some to other layers?
a. I feel like all of the activities are in the appropriate layer. Each layer is clearly labeled and
has the appropriate activities listed beneath it. I would not move any of the activities to
a different layer.

1. Do they offer a variety of activities for all learning styles?

a. I really enjoyed the activities found in this lesson plan. I think this was my favorite lesson
plan so far. This lesson plan offered a large variety of hands-on activities the allowed the
students to practice and demonstrate their knowledge of money. The students could
make flashcards, play coin games, or go shopping and record their expenses.
2. Do they all work toward achieving the overall goal of the lesson plan?
a. In the beginning of the lesson, there were four different objectives listed. Yes, I believe
that the students would be able to meet the objectives after completing these activities.
The activities work towards achieving the overall goal of the lesson plan.
3. What could be done better or added activities?
a. I do not think much could have been done to better these activities. I believe there is a
large variety of activities that the students can choose from and will enjoy. The activities
were based on grade level and hands-on.
4. Are the activities in the appropriate layer or would you move some to other layers?
a. I found that all the activities were in the appropriate later. In layer A, there were two
different activities listed. In layer B, there were three activities or questions listed. In
layer C, I found fourteen activities or questions listed for the students.

Questions:

2. How did you pick which lesson plans to evaluate?
