Can Music Help in Your Daily Life?

“Music not only changes our mood, but it also changes the way we think and our

perception of the world.” (Anonymous) Music can put you in a mood of motivation or of

sadness. Music is something everyone listens to, either to dance, to do homework, or to do some

cleaning around the house. In theory, music helps a lot when studying and can help with your

mood. But the real question is does music help you focus by just listening to classical or soft

music, or what type of music helps you stay focused? What makes music something that

someone has to listen to when doing things like homework and cleaning? Does music help

improve your mood?

Music has a lot of benefits. Music helps with the increase of motivation and the increase

of having a better memory. For example, let’s say that you're studying for a test that is in a

couple of days. You decide that you need to give yourself a break after a couple of problems, like

to reward yourself. Music has the same effect when you're studying. Your brain sets off a reward

process after you finish studying that problem, and you listen to music. Your brain automatically

sets off the motivation that you need to learn this topic. That this is a very important topic and

that it needs to be set in stone, in your brain. According to the research made by Florida National

University, “Music activates both the left and right brain at the same time, and the activation of

both hemispheres can maximize learning and improve memory.” Meaning that music helps open

your brain to keep material stuck into your head. Many may have their own opinion on what

music to listen to when studying. It could either be classical or hard rock or country music. But

according to the Florida National University researchers, it is best to end your night by listening

to classical music, as it is used to calm and help retain the information and help college students

to fall asleep after studying all night. As they quote, “Listening to classical music has been

shown to effectively treat insomnia in college students, making it a safe, cheap alternative to

sleep-inducing meds.” Also, it means that you can listen to any type of music but at the end of

the day, you should listen to classical music to help with the information.

As music affects while studying, it also affects your mood. Music can help with defining

your mood for the day. For example, you could be having so many errands to run and you are

finding it draining. You will listen to music that is either going to get you excited and happy or

you're going to find music that is sad and exhausting. Many researchers have studied that one of

the most listened to music, which is sad music, which can help lift up your mood or it can cause

you to grieve in the situation you're in. According to a doctor, Tuomad Eerola, who is a

professor at Durham University, said, “The results help us to pinpoint the ways people regulate

their mood with the help of music, as well as how music rehabilitation and music therapy might

tap into these processes of comfort, relief, and enjoyment.” Meaning that music is something that

helps with human emotions and comfortness. Music helps many students with their emotional

trauma and with stress that the trauma brought on to them. According to UPMC Health beat,

“Music is connected to our moods, and it will always be a part of human life!” Meaning that

music is connected to our moods, and will always be part of our daily life no matter what we go

through.

As a college researcher sent out a survey on how students feel about listening to music

while studying and how it makes college students feel, you could tell how many students agreed

that music helps them with studying. Many students polled that music also helps them get

through a lot of their work and help ease out the college stress. Students often listen to more rap

than another type of music. As researchers surveyed, many students do not listen to classical

music. Although, listening to classical music can help by retaining knowledge after a long study

session, many students do not listen to classical music. On the other hand, many students feel the

need to listen to music to help control their emotions. As researchers studied that music helps

with people releasing their emotions, it also helps students release their emotions and stress.

Many students often replied that music does help. Music does help release stress and help release

emotions.

Music takes one of the biggest tolls in our daily lives. Music helps with so many things. It

can help with homework or studying for a test or it can help improve your mood. Whether it

helps with releasing certain emotions or it helps with studying. Whether you listen to classical or

to country or to rap, music can definitely help improve your daily life. Music can help with so

many things that many people do not notice.
