NEWLY OPENED BUSINESS IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC

As of 10 May, the COVID-19 virus had infected over 4.1 million people in 185 countries, wreaking havoc
on the global economy. While some countries have gradually eased their restrictions, the majority of
countries, including Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines, are still on
lockdown while the outbreak is being controlled.

While it is impossible to say how long the pandemic will have an effect on the global economy, the
ongoing lockdowns have resulted in job losses, supply chain issues, travel restrictions, and business
disruptions all over the world.

The Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, the Philippines, was declared on March 16 and
was supposed to end on April 12. The ECQ was then extended until April 30th, and on April 24th, the
Philippine President extended it again until May 15th.

Economists have lowered the Philippines' 2020 growth forecast to 0.2 percent as a result of the longer
ECQ, which is significantly lower than the government's initial target growth rate of 6.5 percent to 7.5
percent. Lower household consumption, a drop in cash remittances, a ban on public transportation, and
business closures as a result of the pandemic are some of the factors contributing to the economic
slowdown. The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) estimated in March that the
Philippines could lose 1.8 million jobs. The economic impact of COVID-19, on the other hand, may be
managed depending on the government's response and actions.
Strength:

Services of cleaning. Professional cleaning services that can safely and effectively sanitize
homes, offices, and restaurants are becoming increasingly popular among individuals and
businesses.

Services relating to delivery People are increasingly relying on delivery services, as they stay at
home and avoid unnecessary outings. Food, grocery, and meal prep delivery, as well as retail
delivery, are all experiencing high demand.

Online fitness classes and fitness equipment Because most gyms and fitness studios currently
have limited in-person capacity, consumers are turning to fitness equipment companies and
virtual classes to stay fit without having to leave the house.

Companies that provide landscaping and yard maintenance. People are spending more time at
home with family or hosting smaller outdoor get-togethers rather than going out or on
vacation. As a result, landscaping and lawn care businesses are experiencing a surge in
business.

Makers of masks. With mask use becoming mandatory in some situations, a number of
companies have emerged or successfully shifted their operations to produce high-quality,
aesthetically pleasing masks.

Telehealth services are available. People have been wary of going to doctors' offices because
they are more likely to contract coronavirus there. Telehealth services have risen in popularity
as a result.
Weaknesses:
The COVID-19 crisis is reducing their production, posing a threat to their survival, and restricting
their expansion. In recent months, business registrations have decreased significantly, and the
absence of a new generation of businesses has significant implications for economic outcomes,
particularly employment. Short-term challenges should be addressed by policymakers, who
should support short-term liquidity and funding availability, as well as foster start-ups' ability to
seize new business opportunities. Policies that lower barriers to entrepreneurship, provide
incentives for new businesses, and boost entrepreneurial potential could help the economy
recover faster and keep aggregate employment stable in the long run.

Opportunities:
As consumers adjust to life post-COVID, the current pandemic has opened the door for new and
expanded business opportunities. COVID-19's impact on the business world, in particular, could
not have been predicted, but it has been a fantastic learning experience—especially for aspiring
entrepreneurs. Traditional in-person businesses like restaurants, brick-and-mortar retail, and
event services have been forced to get creative with solutions to stay viable due to social
distancing and remote work, while also opening up a world of opportunities for business
owners to meet consumers' new and evolving needs.
entrepreneurs are innovative, creative, and risk-takers, so starting a business during or
immediately after a pandemic does not scare them away. However, there are a number of
niche markets or gaps in the digital marketplace that entrepreneurs can fill, allowing them to
capitalize on unmet market demand while also putting their best foot forward in the business
world.

Threats:
pandemic is an infectious disease that spreads quickly and poses a global threat. Pandemics can
wreak havoc on society and the economy. By disrupting the supply chain and causing high
absenteeism, they can severely disrupt business operations. This could make it difficult for you
to provide products and services to your customers.
It is critical for business survival to manage the threats posed by a pandemic. A business
continuity plan can help you manage the effects of a pandemic while also fulfilling your legal
obligations to employees.
