THEORY:
A two-port network is an electrical circuit or device with two pairs of terminals make it
possible the isolation of either a complete circuit or part of it They are important in
modelling electronic devices and system components.

Figure1: Two Port Network

The h parameters use the input current at port 1 and the output voltage at port 2 as the
independent variables. The output voltages may be defined in terms of the Z-parameter
matrix and the input currents by the following matrix equation:
V1 = h11 i1 + h12 V2 Eqn.-1
I2 = h1 i1 + h22 V2 Eqn.-2
Where,
h11 = [V1 / i1] with V2 = 0
= Input Impedance with output part short circuited.
h22 = [i2 / V2] with i1 = 0
= Output admittance with input part open circuited.
h12 = [V1 / V2] with i1 = 0
= reverse voltage transfer ratio with input part open circuited.
h21 = [i2 / i1] with V2 = 0
= Forward current gain with output part short circuited.
Dimensions of H- Parameters are
h11 - Ω h22
– mhos
h12, h21 – dimension less.

OBSERVATION TABLE:
Table I – When Output Port is open Circuited, V2 =0.
Taking R1 & R2 in parallel
Req= 0.5 ohm

V1(V) I1(A/mA) I2(A/mA) h11 = V1/I1 h21= I2/I1

When V1=2 V
Current at R1 = 2mA
So, I2= I1- Current at R1 = 2
As it is in reverse direction, so -2mA.

Table II – When Input Port is open Circuited, I1 =0.

Taking R5 & R4 in series
Then taking R54 parallel with R6
Req= 1.0476 ohm

V2(V) V1(V) I2(A/mA) h12 = V1/V2 h22= I2/V2

10 5 5 9.54 9.54 0.5 0.5 0.954 0.954

When V2=2V
By V=IR, current at R6 is 0.90 mA
So current at R5 and R4 = 1 mA
So, Voltage(V1) at R5 and R4= 1V

RESULT:-
We have studied and determine the h-parameter of a 2- port resistive network. Hence, The
h-parameter of a 2- port resistive network has been calculated and verified.
PRECAUTIONS:
1. Care should be taken that low value resistances are not connected across the circuit
2. Ammeter should be connected in series and voltmeter should be connected in parallel.
3. Take care to use the proper polarity when measuring voltage and current.
