 Felipe Castanhari

Felipe Mendes Castanhari is a youtuber, television presenter and
graphic designer from Brazil, known for presenting Canal Nostalgia on
YouTube. Castanhari was born on December 20, 1989, in Osasco, São
Paulo. Has a Portuguese and Italian ancestry. His channel, Canal
Nostalgia, was created at the end of 2011. Castanhari one day decided to
look for productions about cultural references from his childhood. At first,
the result was frustrating. At the time, he worked as a 3D animator, and had
financial stability, which encourages him to invest in his own business. If
things didn't go as planned, he could easily go back to his old job.

Growth advanced and Canal Nostalgia managed to reach a wider

audience. From the fifth video on, Castanhari expanded his team, becoming
a partner with screenwriter Fábio de Almeida, who started to help both in
the production of the videos and in the management of the brand. From
there, the two organized a business plan and their popularity gradually
increased.

In total, it's a team of 12 people working on the channel. Each video has,
on average, over a million views.

In 2014, he almost lost his channel, due to 2 strikes (YouTube image

misuse warning, and when he takes 3, his channel is closed and deleted),
one by Warner Bros and two by 20th Century Fox for using content of the
same, in a video where he talks about The Simpsons, with that, the channel
would be deleted in January 2014, and Castanhari even created a reserve
and alternative channel that reached 300 thousand subscribers in a few
days. After movement and appeal from several other channels such as
Coisa de Nerd, GameplayRJ, Jovem Nerd, Cauê Moura, IzzyNobre, among
others, and also several petitions to Warner and Fox, they removed the
strikes.

Thanks to the internet, Felipe Castanhari is today one of the most

famous and most engaged YouTubers in Brazil.

Alexandre Borba Chiqueta (born December 2, 1983), better known as

Gaules, is a streamer, youtuber, philanthropist and former professional
Brazilian Counter-Strike player.

At the age of 14, in the early 2000s, Gaules frequented the Internet cafe
Monkey Tatuapé. According to him, his dream was to join the Counter-
Strike team there; he asked daily to be a part of it, but his proposal was
always rejected. Gaules wanted to join the team because: "First because I
couldn't pay [for the hours] and the sponsorsip of the players was to play for
free while there was no client. And also because I wanted to be on the best
team at the Internet cafe I used to go to.

Tired of Gaules' insistence on asking daily to join the team, Monkey

Tatuapé decided to place him as leader of a "junior team" of the Internet
cafe. Although this put Gaules down, he realized that there were two ways
to "face" the situation.

At the Cyberathlete Professional League tryouts in Brazil. One of the

team's players was playing poorly, and Gaules, who was called in to replace
him, recalls: "I didn't change equipment or anything, I just sat at the
computer and we turned that game around. Then I didn't leave the team."

In 2017, Gaules began to move away from companies, as he no longer

wanted to "be dependent on other people". He chose to do a project in an
agency to advise teams, events and players, but says he did not find himself
inside the agency, which made the situation worse. Gaules was diagnosed
with severe depression, and he "found himself with nothing". Over time he
decided to broadcast lives on Twitch as his channel slowly grew, Gaules
was criticized by some. He says that one person said that Gaules was
"being embarrassed".

On March 1, 2019, Gaules reached 100,000 people for the first time on
broadcast. He was the 88th highest-grossing streamer in the year, with $91
thousand. That same year, he was also the only Brazilian in the top 10 of
the most watched streamers on Twitch.

Gaules with the help of the internet managed to overcome depression and
become one of the most watched streamers in the world.
