Timing belt: removal/installation


Warnings and recommendations
Unless otherwise advised by the manufacturer, the following procedures are recommended:
Always fit a new timing belt after removal
Coolant pump renewal is recommended after timing belt removal
Check the tensioner and idler pulleys; renew if necessary
Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation
Check the belt(s) for cracks, fraying, wear and oil contamination
Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment
Note: Avoid bending, torsion or traction
General
Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code

Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection

Remove the engine lower cover


Remove the front right wheel
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover


Remove the engine support

Turn the crankshaft

Fit the camshaft
Disconnect locking pin
the battery 0132-RZ

Remove the engine lower cover


Remove the front right wheel
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover


Remove the engine support

Fit the flywheel locking tool 0132-QY

Loosen the tensioner pulley nut


Remove the timing belt
Installation
Ensure the locking tools still fit correctly before fitting the timing belt
Fit the timing belt in the following order: a -> b -> c -> d
Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection

Remove the engine lower cover


Remove the front right wheel
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover


Remove the engine support

Pre-tension the timing belt


Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise until the pointer is positioned as shown

Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect
Use an Allen
thekey
battery
Battery:
Lock the procedures
tensioner; use a for disconnection/reconnection
locking pin 0153-AL
Tighten the tensioner 21 Nm
Remove the engine lower cover
Remove the camshaft locking pin
Remove the front right wheel
Remove the flywheel locking pin
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Turn the engine 10 revolutions by hand
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Refit the locking pins 0132-RZ, 0132-QY
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation
Note: Repeat the procedure if the special tools do not fit properly
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Loosen the tensioner pulley, keeping it steady with an Allen key
Remove the engine support
Turn the tensioner clockwise to align both marks

Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt 21 Nm
Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code
Remove the locking pins
Check the position of the tensioner
Note: Repeat the procedure if the needle is outside the specified area
Fit the timing belt lower cover
Refit the engine support bracket 45 Nm

Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect
Refit the timing
the battery
belt upper cover
Battery:
Fit the procedures
crankshaft pulley for disconnection/reconnection 25 Nm
Fit the ancillary drive belt
Remove the engine lower cover
Refit the engine support 60 Nm
Remove the front right wheel
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover

Refit the front right wheel
Refit the engine lower cover
Reconnect the battery
Torque settings
Tensioner pulley: 21 Nm
Engine support: 60 Nm

Removal

Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection

Remove the engine lower cover


Engine
Removesupport bracket:
the front right wheel 45 Nm

Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard


Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover

Crankshaft pulley 19 - 31 (Nm)
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection
Camshaft gearwheel
Remove the engine
Camshaft lower cover
gearwheel 32 - 42 (Nm)
Remove the front right wheel
Remove the right-hand inner wing splash guard
Special tools
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Tensioner locking pin: 0153-AL
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation

Remove the timing belt upper cover


Remove the engine support
