MINI SAGAS
A mini saga is a short story told in fifty words. Not forty-nine
and not fifty-one.

TEXTO The guy at the store showed me all sorts of phones – sliding, flipping, PDA phone,
camera phone, slim phone and more. There were too many good phones there. I needed to do
some more research before I bought. Two months have passed and I have not made a
decision yet.

TEXT 1 Little Tommy asked his Mom – "Where did I come from?" Mom struggled for over
twenty minutes to explain things about sex. Tommy responded with a blank face - "This is
a bit confusing. Johnny told me he is from Columbus, Ohio, and I wanted to know
where I came from..."

TEXT 2 It was the third time in four years. His idea was already put into effect before he could start
working on it. Someone was stealing his ideas. A question from a friend opened his eyes –
Do you know how many OTHER people had the same idea and didn't develop it?

TEXT 3 I was at a writers' conference earlier this week. The moderator asked for people to list
their expectations from the conference. The expectations ranged from wanting to sell more books
network. What was strikingly missing was that nobody said "I want to
become a better writer”.

TEXT 4 Luckily, the accident wasn't fatal. He recovered quickly. What puzzled him though were
the events that led to the accident. He vividly remembered that he had looked over his
shoulder every time he changed lanes. What he forgot was that he was in the "blind spot”
of someone else.
TEXT 5 John was a regular on that train. Today seemed different, probably because of
Sally who was in New York for work. They started the conversation casually but both
became very close in less than thirty minutes. They exchanged phone numbers, of
course. John promptly called a day later – "Wrong number!"

TEXT 6 When the leader moved on, nobody seemed to notice it. Some people said that
the leader didn't do much before – "See everything seems to work like magic without him." What
most people missed was that the hardest thing for a leader was to make himself not
required in due course.

AMERICAN VERSUS BRITISH TEETH "These are my

real teeth. You think I'd wear them all the time if they
weren't real?"
Ricky Gervais' reply to interviewer remarking on his 'false
teeth'

Ricky Gervais is the first to admit that his teeth are neither white nor straight - and Americans
mistakenly think het [Ol b ad false teeth for comedic
purposes. Why the dental divide? British teeth are
not like American teeth. Hollywood
smiles are pearly white paragons of straightness.
British teeth might charitably be described as having character. So much character, in fact, that
Ricky Gervais says one US journalist complimented him on being prepared to wear unattractive
false teeth for his role as an English dentist in his
[13] film, Ghost Town. But he _[14] "He was
horrified that I could have such horrible real teeth. It's like the biggest difference between the
Brits and the Americans, they are obsessed with perfect teeth," says Gervais.

_[15] many British stars hoping to make it big across the Atlantic, Gervais
hasn't bought himself a Hollywood Smile. But what is it about the bright white and
straight teeth of Los Angeles that
Americans love - and expect of their ___[17] figures? "Americans
have the idea uniformity is equivalent to looking good. The British is more free-spirited,
more radical," says Professor Liz Kay, Dean of the Peninsula Dental School in Exeter and
Plymouth.
She says Americans
to a row of teeth which are absolutely even and white.
