Running head: Leadership Development Plan, Part I1

Leadership Development Plan, Part I

Leadership requires special skills like communication, motivation, decision making skills

that would bring a positive impact. However, leaders have strengths and weaknesses in different

fields. Leaders also progress through self-awareness and objective setting. Application of these

activities into leadership plans adds benefits to an organization or to a group. Therefore, this

study focuses on the current leadership capabilities, a leadership skill worth improving,

recommendations concerning the chosen leadership skill and an action plan.

Evaluating of Current Leadership Capabilities

m
er as
Effective leadership starts with having the skill of self-awareness implying that an

co
eH w
individual need to understand his/her own strengths and weaknesses. According to my

o.
experiences, I have observed that my leadership strength is emotional intelligence, whereas my
rs e
ou urc
weakness is that I am an introverted leader. At school, I acted as a leader and led my team to

complete the project. By working in a team, I directed my classmates a task and gave instructions
o
aC s

to complete the project. I emphasize on “action” which means high completion is one of my
vi y re

criteria. The result of this is a good quality and productivity with high concentration at work

making me have a sense of satisfaction.

When there are disagreements and disputes in the group, my emotional intelligence

leadership skill plays a role in solving these disagreements (Harms, & Credé, 2010). Examples of
is

these disagreements include, disagreements to solutions and doubting leadership abilities. Patient
Th

explanation is my strategy, in order to complete the work, I must let my teammates understand

my task and the results of the work. While my emotional intelligence leadership can solve
sh

problems, my weakness is being an introverted leader. I lack the ability to use my behavior or

performance to encourage people, and I rarely develop connections or interactions with others.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN, PART I 2

What's more, my weakness to reduce the number of followers but increase the right number of

good personality followers.

Leadership Skill to Improve

One of the leadership skills that I would like to improve on this semester is charisma.

Charisma is the ability to compel charm inspiring dedication in other individuals. Furthermore,

this leadership skill would also improve my introverted leadership skills (Antonakis, & Day,

2017). As an introverted leader, I have difficulties in my communication skills, meaning that I

have zero ability to apply behaviors and words to convince others to improve (Atamanik, 2013).

m
er as
Therefore, charisma skill would be beneficial since it would enable me to acquire better

co
eH w
persuasion plus influential abilities. After this, I would be able to convince and influence my

o.
team members using my behaviors and words.
rs e
ou urc
Further, charismatic leaders have the ability to motivate their juniors to perform tasks

seeming impossible. Also, I would want to gain charisma as a skill to improve my networking.
o
aC s

As an introverted leader, I tend to have minimal networking capabilities since it proves stressful
vi y re

and challenging. Thus, charisma would enable me to have good rapport with each and every

individual. Leaders should develop connections with different individuals and give chance to
ed d
ar stu

anybody to show their prowess. However, being an introverted leaders diminishes as I usually

engage in less talks.

is

Being charismatic leads to popularity and development of vast supporters who would be able to
Th

turn to me for advice and backing. This therefore makes these individuals to climb the corporate

ladder and become successful (Antonakis, & Day, 2017). As for my project team, they would be
sh

able to turn to me for support therefore enabling them to succeed in their education activities.

Also, as an introvert, people would have lots of negative thoughts concerning me for example

most people would literally fear socializing since they assume I lack interest. However, gaining

the charisma leadership skill would enable me to closely interact with people therefore having

more close individuals who may add value to the group.

Recommendations for Developing Charisma

To gain charisma skill, I recommend applying of stories and anecdotes while

communicating to the team members. For instance some managers motivate their stuff during

crisis by using stories such as conditions of climbing a mountain during a stormy weather

conditions and success came to due working together. Also, this enables team members to listen

m
er as
carefully and to gain interest thereby developing convincing and influential skills. Besides, I also

co
eH w
recommend improvement in the application of body language and company (McCleskey, 2014).

o.
Presence and body language form vital aspects of charisma therefore working on them would
rs e
ou urc
prove effective. Even without talking to anybody, the first impression is the body language which

would tell more about the warmth, strength and positivity. Presence slightly differs with body
o

language since it denotes a sense of attention.

vi y re

This implies that to be a charismatic leader, one need to devote most attention on the

team. Also, to develop charisma, one need to applaud in assisting other people to have a good
ed d
ar stu

feeling concerning themselves. Charismatic individuals always makes other people feel good

instead on concentrating on their own achievements. Helping people around aids in the creation
is

of a positive environment that naturally draw others. Moreover, creating a meaningful

Th

environment is achievable through being humble concerning achievements and giving sincere

appraisals to others. Likewise, people would notice if the sincerity is genuine or faked therefore,
sh

an individual developing charisma needs to be sincere in their appraisal. Another

recommendation to gain charismatic skill is by practicing active listening. By actively listening,

an individual would be able to stop practicing selective hearing thereby giving each and every

person an equal chance. Besides, charismatic individuals have no sense of ranking while

speaking to others. This also promotes respect which is also another important aspect of

charisma.

Action Plan

An action plan would assist me in implementing my skill further through various steps.

Step One: Defining the Problem

As a leader, I have strengths and weaknesses and my weaknesses need improvements to

m
er as
be on a safer side. My weakness as a leader is that I am introverted and would like to develop

co
eH w
charisma leadership skill.

o.
Step Two: Research and Analysis
rs e
ou urc
Research is on business scholarly articles which state that, charisma skill in leadership is

very beneficial since it impacts lots of positivity to groups and organizations. Leaders are
o
aC s

therefore recommended to develop this skill to enable their businesses and projects to prosper.
vi y re

Thus, this step is to prove the plan effective and worth implementing.

Step Three: Goal Statement for the Problem

ed d
ar stu

This step necessitates the formation of specific, measurable, achievable and timely

(S.M.A.R.T) goals. My specific objective would be to develop different charisma skills to help
is

me deal with the introverted leadership I portray. Measurable statement would be to list all the
Th

steps necessary to fully develop the charisma leadership and then act on them one after the other.

Achievable statement would be to start with the basics like advancing in body language and
sh

other easier steps while developing the skill. Relevant goal would be to ensure I use appropriate

information to assist in detailing the skills in details while improving my charisma leadership

skills. Timed goal statement is that I would set adequate time depending on my learning skills to

develop charisma for instance by the end of the semester, I should be able to depict all the skills

necessary for a charismatic leader.

Step Four: Implementation of the Solutions

This step necessitates writing of an action plan so that I would follow it as a recipe for my

progress. For instance; the plan is about improving charismatic leadership skill by the end of the

semester by using right expressions, sincerely encouraging others and solving problems using

anecdotes and stories. One limitation is that undergoing change is always a challenging task

m
er as
since this developing this skill would mean dealing with a character, introvert.

co
eH w
Step Five: Monitor and Evaluate

o.
I would engage my team members and ask some of them to truly evaluate my progress at

ou urc
the end of the semester.

Conclusion
o
aC s

Leadership is a vital issue in any occasion like a project group. To realize best results,
vi y re

leaders should be effective and use their strengths and also as the same time work on their

weaknesses. My leadership strength is emotional intelligence while my weakness is introverted

leadership skill. One skill I would like to develop is charisma which would aid in motivating and

developing my social capabilities with group members. The action plan used has five steps
is

namely, definition of the problem, research and analysis, stating the goal statement using the
Th

S.M.A.R.T criteria, implementing the solutions and lastly evaluation of the progress.
