Voices of a Blooming Nation

An Interactive LARP Adventure

Races:

- Indigenous:
o The collective name for the first peoples of North America and their descendants. You
have a distinct history, language, forms of governance, cultural practice, and
spiritual belief from European settlers. You have more knowledge of the land, the
animals who live there, and weather patterns than the Europeans. Overall,
Indigenous groups are welcoming to European colonists, but find greater luck with
the French. Indigenous nations can occasionally have tenuous relationships with each
other.

- French:
o You have arrived in the “New World” on behalf of the Kingdom of France. Your
king has a variety of goals for his colonies- economic growth, competition with other
colonizing nations, and religious expansionism. The king is also curious about what
lies beyond the Atlantic Ocean. Overall, French newcomers have good relationships
with some Indigenous groups and a competitive relationship with the British.

- English:
o Like the French, you have arrived in the “New World” on behalf of your European
nation. The King of England began sending English people to the “New World” to
help build the British economy, compete with other colonizing nations (such as
France and Spain), find a higher quality of life, or seek religious freedom. Although
this is not Britain’s first attempt at settling the new land, this time they are more
equipped through mercantilist partnerships and newer technology. The British are
rather isolationist, preferring to claim land and resources for England without
relying on relationships with Indigenous groups or the French. This is not a strict
rule, however.

Classes:

English:

- Colonist:
o A settler from England, you have arrived in the “New World” to begin a new life.
This group is quite varied, and you have the choice to choose your two stronger traits.
For example, one colonist may have high intellect and communication, but lack basic
survival traits (meaning they must rely on relationships built). The primary goal of
a colonist is to build a strong and meaningful life within the “New World.” This
means building personal wealth, making connections, and helping your settlement
along the way.

- Explorer
o As a British explorer, you must have strong persuasive skills. You must be able to
convince the King that the area you have chosen will make for a strong British
settlement. You are extremely brave and are willing to explore uncharted lands and
waters on behalf of the British empire. You have a higher chance of being employed
by the Hudson Bay Company, enhancing survival skills. You also understand the
importance of communication and survival with other groups, such as Indigenous
nations and other classes. You also have high fortitude levels.

- Merchant
o Uninterested in building a colony, your role in the “New World” is to establish
trading posts in strategic geographic locations. As a merchant you have a strong
knowledge of economic potentials, including geographic knowledge. You do not have
strong relationships with many other groups living in the “New World,” but you do
have the benefit of English backing. You are equipped with almost entirely British
materials and have an intellect bonus, but potentially lack survival skills.

French:

- Acadian
o Initially a French settler, you have been welcomed by Mi’kmaq peoples to live in the
Bay of Fundy area. You have a strong relationship with this Indigenous nation and
often trade with one another. You are more likely to receive furs with Indigenous
groups during a trade transaction.

- Coureurs de Bois
o Translated to English, a Coureurs de Bois means “Runners of the Woods.” A unique
group of adventurers, the coureurs de bois built strong relationships with Indigenous
groups (sometimes even marrying them!). Coureurs de Bois have a chance to access
some shared knowledge from Indigenous groups, including how to build a birchbark
canoe and speak Indigenous languages. They were the first fur traders who did so
outside of legal French monopolies.

- Fur Trader
o You are an employee of one of the French monopolies in the “New World.” You work
on a professional basis with Indigenous groups but lack the close relationship most
Coureurs de Bois have. You do, however, have a stronger relationship with French
officials, as you take part in the legal fur trade. There is often a chance of making
extra gold from the French empire when you turn over your furs to officials. Bonus 2
in survivalism.

- Fille de Roi
o Women known as the “King’s daughters” have arrived in New France with the
purpose of helping to expand the population on behalf of France. While you are
expected to marry a male colonist and raise a family, you do have a past that has
made you hardy and strong. Coming from a poor upbringing and hard life in
France has prepared you for the life you are about to lead in New France. You have
fortitude and should not be written off as weak. You also have the benefit of arriving
at the “New World” with many more personal supplies than any other class.

Indigenous:

- Haudenosaunee:
o A group of 6 different Indigenous groups: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga,
Seneca, and Tuscarora. Your traditional territory is around the St. Lawrence River.
Haudenosaunee nations have strong collectivist beliefs, connections to family, and
equality. They are extremely fair and have strong survivalist traits. Due to the
strong communal identity, Haudenosaunee people receive a percentage of any gains
made by other Haudenosaunee players.

- Mi’kmaq:
o The Mi’kmaq people originate in eastern parts of Turtle Island (modern day
Atlantic Canada). You live in a small village called a clan with your immediate and
extended family. You have strong fortitude skills and connections to nature. You will
come to have connection boosts to French players, particularly the Acadians. You are
a strong fisherman.

- Anishinaabe:
o The Anishinaabe are strongest when in the forest and will receive a buff whenever
the adventure takes them there. Using the 7 primary values of the Anishinaabe
worldview (wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, truth), your character
will receive a higher intellect boost. This group would form relationships with
coureur de bois and (to a lesser extent) legal fur traders.
