Lesson Idea Name: I Spy Colors!

Content Area: Mathematics

Grade Level(s): Kindergarten

Content Standard Addressed: MGSEK.MD.3 Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of
objects in each category and sort the categories by count.

Technology Standard Addressed: 3-Knowledge Construtor

Selected Technology Tool: iMovie

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

Levels of Technology Integration:

X Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.

☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

● ELL-pictures and the ability to rewind the and replay the video

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will use iMovie to review colors. After the video plays, the teacher will go back through the video
and have the students point out the colors that they saw. The video is no longer than a minute. The students
will point out different colors that they see in the classroom.

After the students point out colors in the classroom, they will find objects in the classroom that are the same
color. The students will then count how many items they have found. This will be repeated multiple times
until the students are comfortable classifying objects by color.

The classroom will make their own iSpy. This will be created with iMovie and shared on the class page. The
students will pick a color and create an art piece with their color. Some of the students will have the same
color.

Importance of technology:

Using a multimedia tool is critical to this project because it keeps the students engaged about a topic they
already know. This project could be completed without this technology. The teacher will either have to go
outside and play iSpy or just play iSpy inside the classroom.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

A possible issue surrounding internet safety would be leaking the students personal information. If the
students put their name in a place where it would be in the picture, I would crop the picture or white it out
before it is put in the video. The students will not need to make an account for iMovie because it is a free app
to use and the teacher is the only one using the app.

Reflective Practice:

This activity is an introduction to a unit of study. To extend this lesson, the teacher can print out images from
the students to use to group by color. They have to count how many of the images are in each group. Once
they find out that there are many images in each group, they have to put the numbers in order from the
biggest to the smallest. The teacher can also create an interactive mini lesson. The students can participate in
a matching game about colors. They can drag the color that matches the picture. This matching game will be
played on the SmartBoard.
