1. Explain the basic operating principle of an electromagnetic control relay.

2. What is the operating difference between a normally open and a normally closed relay
contact?
3. How do contactors differ from relays?
4. Explain the function of each of the following actuators:
a. Solenoid
b. Solenoid valve
5. Compare, aided with clear sketches, between DC shunt motor, DC series motor and
compound motor.
6. Using neat sketches, explain three methodes used to control the speed of DC shunt
motors.
7. Compare between Full and Half step stepper motor (use sketches as required).
8. A DC separately excited motor has the following specification:

Determine:
a. The rated torque,
b. The starting torque,
c. The starting current at full voltage,
d. The starting speed and the speed at the rated torque condition
