Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up
to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems1 using
information presented in a bar graph.

Objective Students will be able to accurately plot data onto a line plot using a data table they lled in
a er rolling a dice 10 mes.

Materials dice, jam board,

Line plot anchor chart, math notebook

Opening I will randomly call on students to tell me the most important parts of a line plot.
Students will then look at the anchor chart with me that we have been using
throughout the unit.

I will ask comprehension questions like “Which color had the most votes?” and
“How many people voted total?”

Activities Data Collection:

1) Students will each get a dice.

2) I will give students 1 minute to roll the dice so they aren’t playing with it during
the lesson.

3) I will then have students count how many numbers are on the dice. They will
create a data table from 1 - 6 where they will collect data.

4) I will then Roll my dice and model how they are to take data from there dice
rolls. (Tally marks next to the number it landed on)

5) Students will then roll their own dice 10 times, and tally mark the corresponding
number it falls on each time

Line Plot Creation:

1) Students will have a jam board page, where they will create their own line plot.

2) Students will plot their data from the data table. I will give an example of how I
would plot my data, so they have an example themselves.

3) Students will then answer several comprehension questions about their data.

4) Questions: “Which number had the most amount of rolls?” Which number had
the least? How many times did the dice land on 4 or more? Which numbers had
no rolls? (students will record in there notebook)

Closing Students will check the work of the partner they switched with.

Assessment Students will trade jam board and now answer the same comprehension questions
for someone else’s line plot
