Exercise (Present Tenses)

Simple Present / Present Continuous

1. Don’t forget to take your umbrella. It is raining (rain).

2. I hate living in Bogor because it always raining (rain, always).

3. Every Monday, Selly drives (drive) her kids to ballet practice.

4. Usually, I work (work) as a supervisor at Hypermart, but this week I study (study) Spanish at a

university in Madrid.

5. Shhhhh! Be quiet! The students are taking (take) the final examination.

6. The business cards are normally (be, normally ) printed by a company in Medan. The price ... (be)

inexpensive, yet the quality of the work is quite good.

7. Mika is currently writing (write, currently) a book about her journey in Bandung. I hope she can find a
good publisher when she completes it.

8. Rudolf: Do you want to come over for dinner tonight?

Jacko: Oh, I’m sorry, I can’t. I am going (go) to a movie tonight with some friends.

Present Perfect / Present Perfect Continuous

1. Linda: How long have you been (you, be) in Spain? PPC

Lina: I have been studying (study) here for more than three years.

2. I have had (have) the same car for more than five years. I’m thinking about buying a new one.

3. Choki Sitohang has loved (love) chocolate since he was a child. You might even call him a
“chocoholic”.

4. Romeo and Juliet have been having (have) some difficulties in their relationship lately, so they have
been going (go) to a marriage counselor. I hope they work everything out.

5. Lately, I have been thinking (think) about changing my career because I have become (become)
dissatisfied with the conditions at my company.
Present Continuous / Present Perfect Continuous

1. It has been raining (rain) all week. I hope it stops by Saturday because I want to go to the beach.

2. David: “Where is Gary?”

Sarah: “He is studying at the library (study, at the library) for his German test on Wednesday. In fact, he
has been reviewing (review) for the test every day for the last week.”

3. You look really great! Have you been (You, exercise) at the fitness center?

4. Mika, where have you been? We have been waiting (wait) for you since 1 PM.

5. Ian: “What is that sound?”

Nancy: “A car alarm is ringing (ring) somewhere down the street. It is driving (drive) me crazy - I wish it

would stop! It has been ringing (ring) for more than twenty minutes.”

6. Calvin’s english is really improving(improve, really), isn’t it? He has been watching (watch) American
television programs and has been studying (study) his grammar every day since he first arrived in New
York. Soon he will be totally fluent.
