Audio input / output specifications on the T-RAX

Embedded audio input

T-RAX Encoder cards support (2) channels of embedded audio over SDI.

Any (2) of the possible (16) audio input channels can be selected, for example channels 1 and 2 for
Left and Right, or 15 and 16, or any other combination.

If desired, the same input channel can be chosen for both the Left and Right inputs so that the same
audio channel is sent on both Left and Right for the encoded stream.

Analog audio input / output

T-RAX Encoder cards do not have analog audio input.

T-RAX Decoder cards do not have analog audio output.

IFB / headphone / looped audio output

T-RAX Encoder cards do not have a headphone jack for use with IFB or looped audio output / local
monitoring purposes.

T-RAX Decoder cards do not have a headphone jack for IFB audio input.
Video input / output specifications on the T-RAX
Overview

The T-RAX chassis has a video backplane with a total of (16) BNC connectors in (2) rows supporting
3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI signals; for a diagram and additional information refer to page 2 of the
T-RAX User Guide found in this article.

Video backplane input / output

The BNC connectors on the video backplane are not a physical cable pass through, and cannot
function as a passive video distribution amplifier.

The following requirements must be met for video loop-through or video output to be present from a
specific card slot:

 The T-RAX chassis must be connected to power.

 The T-RAX chassis and Controller Card must be turned on and fully booted.
 An Encoder or Decoder card must be installed in that card slot.
 The Encoder/Decoder card must be fully booted.
 The Encoder/Decoder card must be functioning normally -- if the card is in Recovery Mode
or has had a firmware failure, no looped or decoded video output is expected from that card
slot.

Card slot video loop-through vs. video output

The behavior of the BNC connectors for a card slot is determined by the type of card installed in the
slot:

 If an Encoder card is installed, the top BNC connector is for video input, and the bottom BNC
connector is a looped video output.
 If a Decoder card is installed, both top and bottom BNC connectors function as video outputs
-- there is no loop-through video functionality on a Decoder card.
Wi-Fi default configuration and options on the T-RAX

Default Wi-Fi Configuration

The built-in Wi-Fi adapter in the T-RAX system is configured in Access Point (AP) mode for local
device configuration.

The factory default Wi-Fi settings are below:

Wi-Fi network name: Teranet-0

Security Mode: WPA2 Personal

Password: terawifi

IP Address: 172.16.116.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Wi-Fi Configuration Options

The Wi-Fi adapter in the T-RAX system is only intended for initial setup or local configuration
directly in wireless range of the unit, and cannot be used for streaming or other purposes.

 The network name, security mode and password can be changed for the AP mode
configuration.
 The adapter cannot be configured as a client to another Wi-Fi network (e.g. joining a network
created by a home or business router or additional access point).

How to send MPEG Transport Stream / MPEG-TS to a T-
RAX Decoder Card

Background

The T-RAX has a single external IP address that is assigned to the Controller Card.

Each encoder card or decoder card has a unique, internal, private IP address that is assigned to it
based on which slot it's inserted into in the T-RAX chassis.

These internal, private addresses for the codec cards are not displayed in the T-RAX web user
interface (web UI) and cannot be modified by the user.

Ports on the external IP address of the T-RAX controller card are transparently mapped to the internal
private IP addresses and separate internal listening ports on the codec cards inside the T-RAX
chassis.

This external port mapping is configured in the Cards > Port Mapping menu in the T-RAX web UI.

MPEG-TS Configuration

To push an MPEG-TS stream to a Decoder Card inside the T-RAX chassis, you would configure your
encoder to send to the external mapped port on the external T-RAX IP that corresponds to the
internal decoder card on that specific slot.

The default external ports for MPEG-TS port forwarding are listed below:

T-RAX Card Slot      External Port     Internal Port

1 9711 9710
2 9712 9710
3 9713 9710
4 9714 9710
5 9715 9710
6 9716 9710
7 9717 9710
8 9718 9710

NOTE: always leave the internal decoder card's listening port as 9710 in the Cards > Configuration
> Edit menu for each decoder card. The controller card transparently handles all external port
forwarding to the internal address and port that's used on the decoder card.

Examples
1. Sending MPEG-TS over Unicast / UDP to a decoder card on slot 3

If you have T-RAX with a Controller Card IP address of 172.22.100.15, and a decoder card on Slot 3:

How to receive HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) from a T-RAX

Encoder Card
Background

The HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) streaming mode allows a single remote client to pull down HLS segments
from a T-RAX Encoder card.

 HLS segments are not pushed to a remote destination or remote streaming server, they are only made
available for a client to pull down.
 The T-RAX Encoder is not intended to act as or substitute for a streaming server handling multiple
simultaneous clients.

The T-RAX has a single external IP address that is assigned to the Controller Card.

Each encoder card or decoder card has a unique, internal, private IP address that is assigned to it based on which
slot it's inserted into in the T-RAX chassis.

These internal, private addresses for the codec cards are not displayed in the T-RAX web user interface (web
UI) and cannot be modified by the user.

Ports on the external IP address of the T-RAX controller card are transparently mapped to the internal private IP
addresses and separate internal listening ports on the codec cards inside the T-RAX chassis.

This external port mapping is configured in the Cards > Port Mapping menu in the T-RAX web UI.

The default ports used for serving HLS segments and an example URI for each Encoder Card slot is shown
below.

HLS Configuration

The default external ports for HLS streaming are listed below:

T-RAX Card Slot     Default External Port     Example URI

1 9811  http://t-rax.ip.address:9811/stream.m3u8
2 9812 http://t-rax.ip.address:9812/stream.m3u8
3 9813 http://t-rax.ip.address:9813/stream.m3u8
4 9814 http://t-rax.ip.address:9814/stream.m3u8
5 9815 http://t-rax.ip.address:9815/stream.m3u8
6 9816 http://t-rax.ip.address:9816/stream.m3u8
7 9817 http://t-rax.ip.address:9817/stream.m3u8
8 9818 http://t-rax.ip.address:9818/stream.m3u8

Replace t-rax.ip.address with the actual external IP address of the T-RAX controller card. Make sure to
note the changed port for each specific card slot.
