In the latest version of product, the USplus management has been introduced. The new card
allows, with the assignment of an IP address, to communicate with TPS-NU through the net-
work.
This feature innovative compared to the previous card US opens the user the possibility of con-
figure the device remotely by establishing a socket TCP/IP connection between the card and
configurator. This connection allows the transfer of information across the network. The USplus
board also implements additional features such as:
• Remote monitoring apparatus, using SNMP;

• Security of communication, via traffic encryption and authentication session configuration;

• recovery of synchronization.
To support these new features, the configurator operations has been extended .

If transport type is TCP/IP, the equipment must be equipped with an USplus card
otherwise is not possible communicate.
In the case of TCP transmission must indicate the machine’s IP address and port
on which to communicate (6000) (Fig. 4.7). As default the card USplus born with
the same IP address to 192.168.0.1/24, opening the first session configuration will
be necessary to specify this IP address to communicate with it. This requires you to
work offline by directly connecting via Ethernet cable your PC to card and assign it
an IP address belonging to the same network (eg 192.168.0.100).
• Open Database (Ctrl-O) - opens an existing database (Fig. 4.3). The user must choose
among the following parameters (Fig. 4.6):

– Transport Type: Is possible choose between Serial (US) and TCP (USplus).
Set the parameters required depending on the type of transport (Fig. 4.8 o Fig. 4.7))
– Database: Allow to select a configuration file (*. db), and to open a session mode
configurator, initializing the configuration parameters to the values contained in db
file.
• Exit (Alt-X) - quits the program.

To communicate with the card USplus you need to perform the authentication procedure, only
in this way creates the communication channel on which SSH will transit information.
The card provides the user the ability to choose the authentication mode required for opening
configuration sessions, choosing from one of the following methods:
• Local authentication credentials stored on the card
• Remote authentication via RADIUS server

• Remote authentication via TACACS+ server

Depending on the mode chosen, the credentials entered by the user to create the SSH tunnel
is assessed locally by the card or turn to a remote authentication server.
To change the authentication settings, use the voice of US context menu View authentication

data and then Download authentication data.

When the remote authentication are choosen is kept alive the possibility to authenticate with
local credentials, this in order to configure the apparatus in the case where the authentication
server not be reached. Therefore you can define the password for the local user with adminis-
trator (root), whatever the chosen authentication method.
In case you set a new password for local access and run the download of data, changing the
local password takes effect immediately without waiting for the reset of the card.

To authenticate select Operations-Require Authentication, at this point is required the user

to enter valid credentials. As default on board 2 user profiles are defined, respectively, with
administrator privileges (can perform configuration and monitoring) and operator (can only carry
out monitoring operations), the default credentials are the following:
• Administrator Username = root Password = selta
• Guest Username = guest Password = selta
When you restart the board, that can be performed by selecting the Options-Reset US, will
load the new settings for the authentication mode. The reset is done by opening an SSH ses-
sion dedicated. In the case of local authentication, if you have downloaded a new password you
must re-authentication on the card before it can be reset.

Depending on the level of privilege with which you have authenticated, some items in the menu
configurator and some items in the menu of the cards may be disabled. For example, operations
such as download: download configuration and download fw are not enabled when you log in

as a guest.

After the login operations with the default IP address, is possible to assign another IP address
to USplus, it will be included in the initial menu when requesting address equipment you want
to configure. Refer to items in the US contextual menu and select Display Network Data and
then Download Data Network. When the board is restarted, selecting the Options-Reset US,
the new IP address will be loaded.

The card USplus is able to engage to a source of synchronization configurable:

• Synchronization via fiber optics, with IRIG-B protocol (default)

• Synchronizing via the IP network with NTP
Using the protocol IRIG-B and connecting the optical connector mounted on the board an optical
fiber on which a signal is present IRIG-B the card is able to engage with a minimum tolerance
to the signal and to set its internal clock accordingly.
To change synchronization settings, refer to the US context menu and select the item Display
Sync Data and then Download Sync Data. When the board is restarted, selecting Options-
Reset US,the new sync settings will be loaded.

The USplus allows you to export diagnostic apparatus through the SNMP protocol. Is possible
to choose the version of SNMP to use and define the necessary settings, you can also activate
the automatic sending of SNMP TRAP to the occurrence of some specific alarms of apparatus.
By default, the card comes with the following configuration:
• Protocol version: 2c
• Community: public
To change SNMP settings, refer to the US context menu and select the item Show SNMP data
e then Download SNMP data. When the board is restarted, selecting Options-Reset US,the
new SNMP settings will be loaded.

4.3 Autorizzazioni
In relation to the operating mode (configurator or monitor) and user type with which you are
logged on the configurator, some features will be enabled or not. The tab.4.1 shows the mini-
mum privileges for enable a particular command. The tab. 4.2 is the legend of the levels used
in the tab. 4.1: L stands for local authentication, the authentication that is used to access the
configurator while R indicates remote authentication, used to authenticate all’USplus remotely.

6.3 Description configuration parameters and cards

Once the configuration window is opened through the Show Configuration command of the
Operations menu or the context menu of one of the configured cards, it is possible to set up all
configuration parameters of the equipment.
tpsnu ct automatically manages all compatibility checks, therefore it’s impossible to send an
incompatible configuration to the TPS-NU equipment.
Figure 6.11 shows the general configuration parameters. In the top part of the window you can
configure:
• Site Name - can be used to change the site name

• Id. Application Fw : certain parameters settings change according to the application

firmware running on the equipment.
In order to avoid the creation of incongruent configurations the modification of this param-
eter requires the reset of the UAT and UL cards and the deletion of the events table and
of certain parts of the configuration.

• Events Configuration : the command transmitted on the channel through a sequence for
the numerical vector and through a frequency for the analog vector will be referred to as
event. With the configurator you can:

• Create new events : You can choose a combination of commands in transmission and
reception amongst the configured UAT.
The user will see: Tx Command − > Rx Command.
• Increase/Decrease priority : The events created are displayed in order of priority (from
priority 0 upwards). The priority of an event in the list can be increased or decreased.

• Delete events
• Display details : The user can view the details of the event listed, that is the event number,
priority and status.

For further details on the events configuration see [2]. In the lower part there are the connections
to specific configuration windows for every card.
The description of the configuration parameters and the units they refer to follows below.

Show Configuration
It opens configuration window with all not changeable parameters.

Acquisition Pause
It interrupts the acquisition of diagnostic (alarms/signalling). If actived, tpsnu ct shows message
”ACQUISITION PAUSE!” on Status Bar.

Reset Counters
It resets counters of commands and/or starts of the selected UAT (if configured). tpsnu ct opens
the window as in Fig. 7.14 for the selection of the counter to reset.

Figure 7.14: Reset counters Dialog

Test Off-Line
It allows to enable the off-line test of the UAT units: the test allows to check that command execu-
tion relays and transmission command input circuits on each board operate correctly (Fig. 7.15).
tpsnu ct recommends to the user to disconnect the field and external battery. In fact the actuator
relay and sender opto-isolator contacts have to be tested, so it is necessary to work off-line and
use the special test cable for TPS-NU, provided in the TPS-NU maintenance kit.

Stored Events
It shows all 2048 events in chronological order. For each event is indicated date, time, actived
alarms and activated commands. This operation requires some minutes. At the end of the
operation, the result is shown in a window as in Fig. 7.18. Finally it is possible to save the
events in a text file. In the following is represented how to count the events: it is necessary
count the transition. For example the following data:
• PTxC
• PTxC, PRxC
• PRxC
• No Allarms - No Comands
represents 1 transmit event and 1 received event, see the Fig. 7.19 that describes the behaviour
of events PTxC e PRxC.

activated commands. The result is shown in a window as in Fig. 7.18.

Reset Events
It clears all events stored in equipment memory.

Reset CC
If a command is configured as continuous command, a reset of actuators is forced and, if
conditions form the field are met, a reset event is sent to remote TPS-NU. Finally a report of the
operation is shown.

Reset UE
It resets the firmware running on UE card.

Reset UL
It resets the UL hardware and, if applicable, the firmware running on it.

RTC On
It starts the RTC chip, which maintains date and time even if the equipment is switched off.

RTC Off
It switches off the RTC chip. This procedure is suggested when the card is not working to
improve the RTC duration.
