In the latest version of product, the USplus management has been introduced. The new card
allows, with the assignment of an IP address, to communicate with TPS-NU through the net-
work.
This feature innovative compared to the previous card US opens the user the possibility of con-
figure the device remotely by establishing a socket TCP/IP connection between the card and
configurator. This connection allows the transfer of information across the network. The USplus
board also implements additional features such as:
• Remote monitoring apparatus, using SNMP;
• recovery of synchronization.
To support these new features, the configurator operations has been extended .

4. Program Start
Start the program with a double click on the desktop icon or select the tpsnu ct group in the
Programs-Selta section on the application bar and click on ”tpsnu ct”.
4.1 Login
When started, the program requests the authentication with username and password.
To every username is associated a privilege level.
Every command has privileges minimum demanded for being executed.
It is possible to define new users assigning to everyone a privilege.
The informations in the Login dialogue are:
• New Equipment (Ctrl-N) - Once you started the tpsnu ct software (Fig. 4.2), following
options are available (see Figg. 4.4 e 4.5):
– Working Mode:
* Configurator (Off-line) creates a new configuration file of an equipment of type
specified by ’Equipment Type’ field.
* Monitor (On-line) uploads a configuration from a connected TPS-NU, in this
case the field ’Equipment Type’ is ignored.
– Site Name: represents the site name, if not specified the default name is considered.
(Site Name). If the Working Mode selected is Monitor this field is disabled.
– Database: if you selected ’Configurator’, this radiobotton specifies if you want to start
from an existing configuration or if you want to create new configuration. If an existing
configuration has been called, its name is placed in the title bar.
– Equipment Subtype: if you selected ’New Database’, this field selects the TPS-NU
subtype.
– Connection type: Local or Remote.
– Transport Type: Is possible choose between Serial (US) and TCP (USplus).
Choosing the serial communication is necessary set the serial port name used to
communicate with the equipment (Fig. 4.8).

written authorization.
If transport type is TCP/IP, the equipment must be equipped with an USplus card
otherwise is not possible communicate.
In the case of TCP transmission must indicate the machine’s IP address and port
on which to communicate (6000) (Fig. 4.7). As default the card USplus born with
the same IP address to 192.168.0.1/24, opening the first session configuration will
be necessary to specify this IP address to communicate with it. This requires you to
work offline by directly connecting via Ethernet cable your PC to card and assign it
an IP address belonging to the same network (eg 192.168.0.100).
• Open Database (Ctrl-O) - opens an existing database (Fig. 4.3). The user must choose
among the following parameters (Fig. 4.6):
– Transport Type: Is possible choose between Serial (US) and TCP (USplus).
Set the parameters required depending on the type of transport (Fig. 4.8 o Fig. 4.7))
– Database: Allow to select a configuration file (*. db), and to open a session mode
configurator, initializing the configuration parameters to the values contained in db
file.
• Exit (Alt-X) - quits the program.
The Configurator operation mode allows to create, modify, print, save, transfer from/to the
equipment the configuration tables.
Furthermore it allows the upgrade of firmware on TPS-NU cards. In configurator mode is possi-
ble to choice if see the device in front or rear mode using the related checkbox (Fig. 4.5).
The operation mode Monitor allows to display the configuration that resides on the equipment,
the diagnostic information coming from it and to send some commands to the equipment.

as a guest.
After the login operations with the default IP address, is possible to assign another IP address
to USplus, it will be included in the initial menu when requesting address equipment you want
to configure. Refer to items in the US contextual menu and select Display Network Data and
then Download Data Network. When the board is restarted, selecting the Options-Reset US,
the new IP address will be loaded.
The USplus allows you to export diagnostic apparatus through the SNMP protocol. Is possible
to choose the version of SNMP to use and define the necessary settings, you can also activate
the automatic sending of SNMP TRAP to the occurrence of some specific alarms of apparatus.
By default, the card comes with the following configuration:
• Protocol version: 2c
• Community: public
To change SNMP settings, refer to the US context menu and select the item Show SNMP data
e then Download SNMP data. When the board is restarted, selecting Options-Reset US,the
new SNMP settings will be loaded.
4.3 Autorizzazioni
In relation to the operating mode (configurator or monitor) and user type with which you are
logged on the configurator, some features will be enabled or not. The tab.4.1 shows the mini-
mum privileges for enable a particular command. The tab. 4.2 is the legend of the levels used
in the tab. 4.1: L stands for local authentication, the authentication that is used to access the

written authorization.
An optional comment.
There are some predefined users with following characteristics (not modifyable): For each
operation, required levels are defined in table 5.2.
Fw Management
Possible operations are:
Import Fw Before downloading a FW, is necessary to import it (see Fig. 5.4). This means that
tpsnu ct must read and cross-check Firmware (FW) and Release Notes (RN) files in order to
avoid any error in file manipulation: if the wrong RN is associated to a FW, the import operation
will fail. Furthermore, the user will identify a FW with its identifier (assigned by Selta) and not
with a filename (that can be changed by everyone, could give truncation problems in case of

written authorization.
Aloft to the right on the window there are the current date and time of the equipment (Fig. 7.8).
With the proper permission it is possible to set date and time, by selecting the item ”Time/Date
setting” in the ”Operation” menu. The generic parameters and the parameters of the Line Unit
(UL), Processing Unit (UE), Service Unit (US) and of the High Voltage Command Unit (UAT) are
shown through the configuration window.
The configuration window can be accessed, but not changeable, through the Operations menu
(Alt+p), by clicking on Show Configuration.
The status of the cards is represented graphically with the colour of the Status Indicator (Fig. 7.2).
The color of indicator reflects the status: green means no alarm and red means alarm.
To see detail of alarms, click on a red position, you will see the list of alarms on the related card
(Fig. 7.3). The general parameters panel (top left hand side, Fig. 7.4) contains information about
type of equipment, configured commands, Full-Duplex commands and firmware identifiers and
versions in the equipment. Under the general parameters there is a panel with equipment Local
Alarms (Fig. 7.5):
• Damaged machine (LALL)
• Line summary (RALL)
• Generic alarm (GALL)
• Emission block.
There is another panel with remote equipment alarms (only with the firmware ue seq r, Fig. 7.6):
• Damaged machine (LALR)
• Line summary (RALR)
• Generic alarm (GALR)
• Address Alarm.
The panel on the top right hand side, shown in Fig. 7.7, next to the sub-rack, contains the
equipment’s diagnostic information:
• Guard level (dBm): if the used interface is analog (low frequency 0-4 kHz, analog or digital
power line carrier)
• BER level : if the used interface is digital (optical fiber, G703, V11)

written authorization.
• Number of Starts
• Number of transmitted commands
• Number of received commands.
In the top on the right there is the date and time of the equipment (Fig. 7.8). Under the date there
is the indication whether the machine that you are connected to is local or remote as shown in
the Fig. 7.9. After there is the site name (Fig. 7.10), this data could be modified through the
choice of Operation/Show Configuration.
Another window contains the transport type (Fig. 7.11).
The main connectors of equipment are shown above the sub-rack, as in Fig. 7.12. Under the

sub-rack any commands (transmitted or received) or starts are shown in real time with the
messages in Fig. 7.13:
• Start A (or B or C or D)
• Tx Command A (or B or C or D)
• Rx Command A (or B or C or D).
Every command (transmitted or received) and every start is recorded by the relative software
counters.
A new session cannot be opened without previously having closed the current one. This section
describes now the user interface commands which can be activated in the monitor mode and
the alarms associated to the single units.

written authorization.
Show Configuration
It opens configuration window with all not changeable parameters.
Acquisition Pause
It interrupts the acquisition of diagnostic (alarms/signalling). If actived, tpsnu ct shows message
”ACQUISITION PAUSE!” on Status Bar.
Reset Counters
It resets counters of commands and/or starts of the selected UAT (if configured). tpsnu ct opens
the window as in Fig. 7.14 for the selection of the counter to reset.
Test Off-Line
It allows to enable the off-line test of the UAT units: the test allows to check that command execu-
tion relays and transmission command input circuits on each board operate correctly (Fig. 7.15).
tpsnu ct recommends to the user to disconnect the field and external battery. In fact the actuator
relay and sender opto-isolator contacts have to be tested, so it is necessary to work off-line and
use the special test cable for TPS-NU, provided in the TPS-NU maintenance kit.

written authorization.
Stored Events
It shows all 2048 events in chronological order. For each event is indicated date, time, actived
alarms and activated commands. This operation requires some minutes. At the end of the
operation, the result is shown in a window as in Fig. 7.18. Finally it is possible to save the
events in a text file. In the following is represented how to count the events: it is necessary
count the transition. For example the following data:
• PTxC
• PTxC, PRxC
• PRxC
• No Allarms - No Comands
represents 1 transmit event and 1 received event, see the Fig. 7.19 that describes the behaviour
of events PTxC e PRxC.

written authorization.
Reset Events
It clears all events stored in equipment memory.
Reset CC
If a command is configured as continuous command, a reset of actuators is forced and, if
conditions form the field are met, a reset event is sent to remote TPS-NU. Finally a report of the
operation is shown.
Reset UE
It resets the firmware running on UE card.
Reset UL
It resets the UL hardware and, if applicable, the firmware running on it.
RTC On
It starts the RTC chip, which maintains date and time even if the equipment is switched off.
RTC Off
It switches off the RTC chip. This procedure is suggested when the card is not working to
improve the RTC duration.
