Science, Technology and Society Activity 01

As of this moment, a lot of problems have arisen which result in pain, suffering and
misery to the lives of several individuals around the world. Poverty, hunger, unemployment,
global warming and high crime rate have been experienced by a lot and finding a solution to it
all at once is highly possible and impossible at the same time. Overpopulation have caused
much chaos to the world and still, we individuals ignore like it some achievement for all of us. As
stated by Baus D. (2017), although scientist cannot predict what the future would look like, they
argue that devastating impacts of growing population cannot be ignored. Disease, climate
change, shortage of food and water, poverty, and a declining economy are warning signs that
domestic and global organizations need to act on time.
There are now too many people on the planet using too many resources and producing
too many risky wastes. Human population growth at current levels exacerbates all other threats.
Its seriousness, and preventability, are not being addressed in any country even in the
Philippines. Our common perspective always tells us that poverty is because of corrupt
government, high unemployment rate is lack of job, high crime rate is the result of both poverty
and unemployment. But little did we know that is all our doings. We cannot feed them all, jobs
are not certain to all and our dreams we want to achieve were very unsure. Human
overpopulation is among the most pressing environmental issues, silently aggravating the forces
behind all problems. Kopnina H. & Washington H. (2016) stated that the environmental crisis is
rapidly accelerating, yet much of society and academia still ignores or denies that a key driver is
overpopulation. To achieve any sustainable future, we must crack the dam of denial and accept
and solve this dilemma.

Steps in solving overpopulation in the world:

1. Observation
To find a place where overpopulation are present and made them aware about their
situations

2. Research
Present and formulate a study towards the danger of overpopulation

3. Participate
To join local environmental groups to fight and address the population issues

4. Program
Invite parents to participate in a family planning program and raise awareness about
overpopulation
5. Realization
Help the children to early educate themselves about sex and contraception

6. Availability
To make modern contraception legal, free and available anywhere

7. Restriction
Restrict child marriage and raise the legal age of marriage

8. Funding
Encourage government and organizations to generously fund family planning programs

9. Legal
To legalize abortion without social stigma and make sex education part of the curriculum
