Ms. Boudreau
December 2021

This month, we are building our background knowledge about Ninjas! We are
taking an adventure with Jack and Annie to Japan. We are also having fun making
crafts and engaging in various activities to celebrate the holidays.
Please ensure your child has a hat, mittens and warm coat each day! Initials on
the tags help us quickly find the owners of lost or dropped items.
Mrs. Pereira and I would like to wish you a very happy and healthy holiday! We
look forward to all the learning adventures the New Year will bring!

What are we doing In school?

The students are really starting to increase the lengths of their messages and are
using new vocabulary words in their writing that are connected to the content. The
studnets are readily making connections between the chapter book and the background
information we have learned.

What reading & writing skills are being practiced?

In writing, we have been focusing on ending sounds. We want the
children to have at least the initial sound and ending sound for each word. It’s great
to see so many children hearing and writing the middle sounds as well! After we start
sight words in a few weeks, we will begin to ask the studnets to spell those words
correctly in their writing.

What is happening with Fundations?

We are finished with all of the lowercase letters of the alphabet! We will begin
focusing on the uppercase letters soon! We also have been working on segmenting
and blending cvc (consonant-vowel-consonant) words- examples) cat, hip, etc.
Continue to practice proper letter formation at home!

What math skills are being practiced?

We continued with expanding our number sense. Reinforcing shapes, patterns, and
counting to 100 each week! We have been working with ten frames to help us combine
numbers up to 10 and write addition sentences to go with them! Additionally, we have
been working on the teen numbers and correct formation of numbers!

Who is up for some festive fun?

We are excited to have students bring in cards for each other this year! We will
have a festive party on December 23rd and will exchange cards on that day! We have
22 students in class. Please only sign the INSIDE of cards and leave the envelopes
BLANK. It is SOOOOO much easier for the students to pass them out that way! We can
wear pajamas, but NO slippers please.
