Replacement of Ball Bearing Mounted Unit Pillow Blocks With Eccentric Collars.

• Ensure Shaft is either new or in good reusable condition (no damage). Shaft end is
chamfered and free burrs.
• Slide unit onto shaft and fix bolt into position being careful not to over tighten foot
bolts.
• Slide eccentric collar down shaft and onto inner ring.
• Turn collar “IN THE SAME DIRECTION” as the shaft will turn once the equipment goes
into operation. The collar will lock into place on the inner ring of the bearing and grip
the shaft.
• Once the collar stops you will find a small indentation in the O.D. of the collar. Using a
set punch or like tool insert the tool into this indentation and “lightly” tap “once”, again
in the direction of shaft rotation.
• The Bearing and housing should now be in its proper mounted position.
• Remove set screw from collar.
• Mark the position of the set screw on the shaft.
• Unbolt and remove the pillow block from the shaft.
• Dimple the shaft at the mark you made on the shaft. Dimpling the shaft will ensure the
bearing and collar will not be able to be moved in a axial direction once the equipment
goes in operation.
• Reassemble following the steps above.
• When inserting and tightening the collars set screw it is advisable to use a thread locking
compound like Loctite ™ such as Threadlocker 222 (purple) or 243 (blue). Be careful not
to over tighten (see recommended torque values).
• Over tightening the eccentric collar and/or set screws or both can result in cracking of
the inner ring of the bearing.
• MOST IMPORTANT – Do Not Grease once installed! These units are greased at the
factory. See lubrication guide for grease replenishment intervals and quantity for your
given size range and operating conditions.

Grease Relubrication Amounts & Intervals

Shots of Operating Conditions
Bore Size Grease* Normal Harsh Severe
1/2 - 1.1/4 1 6-8 months 3-4 months 1-2 months
1.7/16 - 1.15/16 2 6-8 months 3-4 months 1-2 months

3-4 10 12-16 months 6-8 months 3-4 month
*Note: ‘Shots of Grease’ are from a standard grease gun at approximately 1 - 1.1/4
grams per shot. Double the number of shots for NSK 300 series inserts.
It is preferable to relubricate when the shaft is rotating.
