WORK AND STUDY (LESSON 1)

-Be very good (at something) (a1)-> be brilliant (at something) (B1)-> be competent (at
something) (B2)-> be proficient (in something) (c1) => adjective. (able to do something really
well).
A1: I’m not so good at English and I really want to improve it. (A1)
B1: I’m not so BRILLIANT AT english and I really want to enhance it. (B1)
B2: I’m not so COMPETENT at English…. (B2)
C1: I’m not so PROFICINET IN English….

 After 2 months studying hard, my English becomes more COMPETENT.

*FOR EVERY NEW WORD YOU STUDY: STRESS, ENDING SOUND, FUNCTION, MEANING,
EXAMPLE.
Ex: ‘competent (a) very good at something.
=> After 2 months studying hard, my English becomes more COMPETENT.

=>Being competent at English is a huge advantage nowadays.

nowadays.

-Để nói tiếng Anh tự tin trước đám đông, bạn cần luyện tập nhiều hơn. (confident: adj)
=>To speak English confidently in front of many people/ in public, you need to practise more/
you need to do more practice/ you need to GET more practice/ you need to have more regular
practice.

-Proficient (a)-> Proficiency (n) =>Have a great/high level of proficiency in something


-Competent (a)-> competence (n) =>Have a great/high level of competence at something.

=>I do believe that if you get more practice every day, you will have a higher level of proficiency
in both English and Chinese.

Every day / everyday: different or same?


Every day (adv): I study English every day.
Everyday (adj): My everyday (daily) activity is learning English.

=>Having a higher level of competence in foreign languages is a huge advantage for you to work
in international companies.

Her COMPETENCE as an English teacher is unquestionable.


Unquestionable/ obvious/ evident/ clear-cut/ apparent/ clear/ undoubted (a)
=>It is Unquestionable/ obvious/ evident/ clear-cut/ apparent/ clear/ undoubted THAT +
CLAUSE (S + V).
=It stands to reason that….
->It is unquestionable THAT money is very important/… since it enables us to pay the bills BUT
it’s not everything.
->Unquestionably/ obviously/ apparently, Clause (S +V)
=> Unquestionably/ obviously/ apparently/…, money is very important since it enables us to pay
the bills BUT it’s not everything.

=>I am NOW/ CURRENTLY the first-year student at Hue University of foreign languages and my
