ABOUT THIS SERIES
SOUL CAPTURE SERIES
THE V.I. THAT BECAME A REAL BOY

The magic of the Soul Capture Series is the ability to play as the performer, someone who has spent a
lifetime practicing and honing their abilities, with their personality projected through their instrument...

A REAL PERFORMANCE.

THE WORLDS FIRST VIOLIN VIRTUAL PERFORMER

Czech born Ondrej Pochyly, the first performer to have been immortalized into our Soul Capture Series of
solo instruments, performs using his Maestro Czech Violin, recorded in studio dry quality at VirHarmonic

PERFORMANCE POSSIBLE (SSD* IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

PREFERENCES MENU
To open the Preferences, click the burger button and select
preferences from the drop down menu.

STREAMING TAB
Click on the Streaming Tab to open the streaming page.

STREAMING SETTINGS
In most cases the default settings will be ideal, but rather than

(streamed) from the hard disk as the program is being played. To
optimize your experience, please select the appropriate hard drive
type and cache size for your system. (Default cache is suitable for
majority of systems).
APPLY CHANGES
NOTE: to apply the settings of this page, you must click Apply.
UVI Workstation’s performance is directly affected by the speed of
the hard disk, so the faster the drive the better, set the Hard drive
type accurately for the best performance.

* SOLID STATE DRIVE, INTERNAL IS BEST OR EXTERNAL VIA USB-C/THUNDERBOLT OR USB 3.0
TRY TO AVOID USING USB HUBS OR USB MULTI SPLITS, AS THEY GREATLY REDUCE HDD/SSD STREAMING SPEEDS

load all the samples upon launch.

Patch 2: Bohemian_Violin_v3_Fast_Load - This is the fast load

patch which will load the program with essential samples only. The
remaining samples will load in upon first note played.
To ensure the library loads fast in your saved projects, please purge the
library prior to final save in your DAW.

Double click the patch you wish to open and the Library will start
to load.

10
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
BACKGROUND LOADING
BACKGROUND LOADING
We have given you a choice of patches to load, a full load patch (Standard load time) and Purged patch
which only loads the necessary samples and leaves the rest purged (Shorter Load time). With the Purged
patch, the samples will load in upon first note played. You can also purge and load samples within the
user interface on the fly.

PURGE SAMPLES
Purge all samples, the library will become unresponsive during this short process. This function is essential to
use prior to saving your project if you use fast load patch, so next time you load your project, the samples will
be purged speeding up load time. (If Auto Load is off, Samples will not play until you have clicked the Load Samples button)

LOAD SAMPLES
This fully loads the library, you can still play the library while loading the samples, although you may hear pops
and clicks during the loading. (A loading samples notification will appear until fully loaded)

AUTO LOAD SAMPLES

Will Automatically load the purged samples on first note played. While the library is loading the Loading
Samples overlay will be active and the UI will not be accessible. Most memory efficient, suitable for SSD only,
playback may be temporarily interrupted due to the background loading of samples.

17
CONTROL
KEY-SWITCH & FORCE-KEY
The performer takes care of the articulation handling for you, based on the way you play. If you would like

22
CONTROLLING
THE VIRTUAL PERFORMER
There are Seven factors that control the Bohemian Violin, but don’t worry, as most of this is taken care of
by our Virtual performer or you can choose to manually override the virtual performer if you so wish.

1
MOOD
The mood you have selected overrides the entire virtual performer play style.

2
VELOCITY
How hard you hit the keys affects dynamic.

3
ON BOW
Overlapping the notes plays our vast array of on-bow legatos

4
Not overlapping the notes (within Release Time which can be set between 150-300ms) plays our vast array of
BOW CHANGE bow-change legatos. Play over the set release time, and the Violinist will perform a bow lift and begin a

5
new phrase.

Virtual Performer chooses articulation/legato or user can manually force articulations.

BOW TYPE

6
BOW MOTION
Virtual Performer decides bow motion, up bow, down bow, re-bow or user can manually force bowing.

7
PLAY SPEED
The speed at which you play will trigger different behavior, playing a specific way fast, will perform trills,
runs or tremolos.

23
LAYOUT ARTICULATION MENU 1/6
[LONG ARTICULATIONS]
ARC Midi Key Default: C0
A sustained note with Crescendo and a very soft start. Ideal for longer opening notes.

MID-ARC Midi Key Default: C#0

Similar to Arc but with faster Crescendo and Diminuendo towards the end. The Mid Arc climaxes in the
middle. More suitable for mid phrases or faster paced pieces.

SUSTAIN Midi Key Default: D0

Level dynamic sustain, suitable for mid phrases or faster bow changes.

DIMINUENDO Midi Key Default: D#0

A sustain with gradually decreasing volume, currently the longest bow. Ideal for end of phrase.

MARCATO Midi Key Default: E0

Sustain with a sharp and immediate attack, ideal for faster paced parts or escalation of dramatic
emotion.

24
LAYOUT ARTICULATION MENU 2/6
[LEGATO TYPE]
¼ LEGATO Midi Key Default: F0
A form of on bow legato that uses purely fingered or string changed legato with a short
note after the transition. Ideal for faster pace emotion or if no slur is desired.

½ LEGATO Midi Key Default: F#0

The most expressive of all legatos, with a mid length bow after the transition. Featuring fingered as
well as pronounced slurs with dynamic variation. Ideal for expressive parts.

LEGATO Midi Key Default: G0

Whole Legato, the slowest of all the legatos featuring both fingered and slurred in lower dynamics.
Offers the longest on bow sustain after transition and is ideal for quiet and emotional playing.

BOW CHANGE Midi Key Default: G#0

Forcing bow change will mean that every new overlapped note will use bow changed legato instead of
on bow.

PORTAMENTO Midi Key Default: A0

Is a slide between a note and a new note on overlapped legato. The force key needs to be pressed, like
with all others, prior to the transition (new note overlap).
This legato should be used rarely.

25
LAYOUT ARTICULATION MENU 3/6
[SHORT ARTICULATIONS]
TRILL/RUN Midi Key Default: A#0

STACCATO Midi Key Default: B0

Automatically re-bows just prior to the end of the note, can be switched off by clicking the re-bow
force key icon in the user interface, switching it to manual re-bowing.

NON VIBRATO Midi Key Default: F1

None vibrato bow strokes. None vibrato does not support auto re-bowing or the lasting bow functions,
thus each note will finish at the end of the bow. However, it has true re-bow samples available, so you
can re-bow manually by replaying the note and it can also be played as an on-bow or bow-changed
legato when forced.

CHORDS Midi Key Default: F#1

Chords will activate our newest Poly-Legato mode that we fondly call Maestro. Maestro can also be
activated by clicking the icon beneath the play box. Maestro can be CC assigned by right clicking
on the icon.

LAYOUT ARTICULATION MENU 5/6
[MOODS]
“A performer mood is a musical style employed by the virtual performer, the mood
affects what type of legato and articulations the Virtual Performer may use to evoke a
certain style of playing”

Embellish and evolve the Virtual Performers mood by seamlessly employing different
key-switch or force-key articulations, as soon as you released the forced behavior, the
performer continues seamlessly with their performance.

IMPROV Midi Key Default: C2

Ideal for all tempos and a great way to start playing with our Virtual Performer.

Improv will offer the most variety in selecting our on bow legatos, as well as utilizing all variations of
our Bow-Changed Legatos to allow the player to be always in phrase.

This mood is very expressive yet flexible, ideal for mid tempo pieces.

CZARDAS Midi Key Default: C#2

The most aggressive of our moods, always opening the beginning of the phrase with a Marcato.

Leans heavily towards faster legatos and is ideal for faster paced energetic pieces in higher dynamics.

EMOTIVE Midi Key Default: D2

Offering the softest of our moods, ideal for the slower paced pieces in lower dynamics.

Leaning towards a feathery performance with a nice but not over pronounced slur and slower paced
legatos, whilst still allowing for faster paced parts.

CONCERTINO Midi Key Default: E2

Concertino brings about a very assertive Violinist, playing using mostly fingered Legato

Ideal for faster mf to ff phrasing.

LASTING BOW Midi Key Default: G1

An experimental bow extender, which enables you to prolong the bow length following a Legato.

To apply, press this force key prior to the interval and hold down during the interval, the final note will
be extended by near seamlessly merging two bows together, giving you a longer lasting bow.

NONE
Select none to leave the slot on the user interface empty, although you may hide articulations from the
interface, they will always remain assigned to a midi key.
