BOHEMIAN VIOLIN
ABOUT THIS SERIES
SOUL CAPTURE SERIES
THE V.I. THAT BECAME A REAL BOY
The magic of the Soul Capture Series is the ability to play as the performer, someone who has spent a
lifetime practicing and honing their abilities, with their personality projected through their instrument...
A REAL PERFORMANCE.
A lifetime of Violin performing and incredibly mind boggling scripting, all wrapped into a single package
for you to play and compose.
No midi mastery or advance programming required, the Bohemian Violin takes care of all of this on your
behalf, leaving you free to make music beautifully fast with unparalleled realism.
Czech born Ondrej Pochyly, the first performer to have been immortalized into our Soul Capture Series of
solo instruments, performs using his Maestro Czech Violin, recorded in studio dry quality at VirHarmonic
Studios, Czechia.

optimize your experience, please select the appropriate hard drive
type and cache size for your system. (Default cache is suitable for
majority of systems).

UVI Workstation’s performance is directly affected by the speed of
the hard disk, so the faster the drive the better, set the Hard drive
type accurately for the best performance.
* SOLID STATE DRIVE, INTERNAL IS BEST OR EXTERNAL VIA USB-C/THUNDERBOLT OR USB 3.0
TRY TO AVOID USING USB HUBS OR USB MULTI SPLITS, AS THEY GREATLY REDUCE HDD/SSD STREAMING SPEEDS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
BACKGROUND LOADING
BACKGROUND LOADING
We have given you a choice of patches to load, a full load patch (Standard load time) and Purged patch
which only loads the necessary samples and leaves the rest purged (Shorter Load time). With the Purged
patch, the samples will load in upon first note played. You can also purge and load samples within the
user interface on the fly.
PURGE SAMPLES
Purge all samples, the library will become unresponsive during this short process. This function is essential to
use prior to saving your project if you use fast load patch, so next time you load your project, the samples will
be purged speeding up load time. (If Auto Load is off, Samples will not play until you have clicked the Load Samples button)
LOAD SAMPLES
This fully loads the library, you can still play the library while loading the samples, although you may hear pops
and clicks during the loading. (A loading samples notification will appear until fully loaded)

This is the greeting page when you first open the Library.
Here you can play with an uncluttered User interface and no distractions. Everything can
be played from here, if you wish to see the Key-switches and Force-Keys assigned on the
interface, simply unhide the controls and the interface will visually show all your assigned
articulations.

SETTINGS INTERFACE
CONTROL
16
This is where you can take control of the performer by assigning additional overrides to
each mood, directing the Virtual Performer to your specific style. These functions are
best suited for those wishing to take a more active role in directing the Virtual Performer
beyond its defined play styles.
CONTROL
MENU SELECTION
When you reveal the controls by clicking the show control icon , the menu will expand to include the
following functions:
RELEASE TIME
Click to open a drop down menu that allows you to adjust the release time between the default 300ms for
easy live playing or 225ms and 150ms. This is the time the note is held for after release to allow for nice Bow
Changed legato. (Release Time is specific to each mood).
17
CONTROL
KEY-SWITCH & FORCE-KEY
The performer takes care of the articulation handling for you, based on the way you play. If you would like
to direct the performer to play something different to the articulation chosen, you can use a FORCE-KEY
for a quick alternative or a KEY-SWITCH to alter the performance for a longer duration.
KEY-SWITCH
Lights up when pressed, will override the performer until another articulation is selected or that key-switch is
pressed again, returning control back to the Virtual Performer.
FORCE-KEY
Lights up when held down, will override the performer until the key is released, once released the Virtual
Performer will regain control. Staccato, Spiccato, Pizzicato and Non-Vibrato Force-Key can be clicked to switch
between Force-Key or Key-Switch.
BOW CONTROL
These work exactly the same as Force-Keys but have their own icon for bow control.
The exception is for RE-BOW which can be clicked or CC assigned as it is a toggle:
MANUAL AUTOMATIC
RE-BOW RE-BOW
18
CONTROL
ASSIGNING MIDI KEYS

choosing. Once clicked you will be prompted to press a new midi key to assign, if the key you choose is
already assigned to another articulation, you will have a choice to cancel the assignment or swap the keys
over. (It is not possible to have an articulation without an assigned midi key).
19
ARTICULATION
LAYOUT
20
Tailor the Library to your specific work-flow, assign slots you have selected to any
articulation, mood or bow type. Each mood can have its own unique layout, so as you
switch through Moods, you can have different articulations assigned to Key-Switches/
Force-Keys, allowing you to re-use a single midi key multiple times.
LAYOUT
ARTICULATION SELECTION
The LAYOUT allows you to change which articulations are placed under which mood. Moods can have
different articulation setups from each other and share midi key assignments, so as you change through
the moods, you can reuse the same midi key to trigger different articulations.
ARTICULATION SLOT
Click to open the LAYOUT page. You may assign a different Articulation, Mood, Legato or Bow type to the
selected slot. You can only edit one slot at a time.
Each layout can be unique to each Mood
[SELECTION TYPE]
Shows you what type of selection you have clicked, ranges from Performer Mood, Legato Type, Long
Articulation, Short Articulation, Bow Control and Empty Slot.

4
Not overlapping the notes (within Release Time which can be set between 150-300ms) plays our vast array of
BOW CHANGE bow-change legatos. Play over the set release time, and the Violinist will perform a bow lift and begin a
5
new phrase.
6

“A performer mood is a musical style employed by the virtual performer, the mood
affects what type of legato and articulations the Virtual Performer may use to evoke a
certain style of playing”
Embellish and evolve the Virtual Performers mood by seamlessly employing different
key-switch or force-key articulations, as soon as you released the forced behavior, the
performer continues seamlessly with their performance.
Improv will offer the most variety in selecting our on bow legatos, as well as utilizing all variations of
our Bow-Changed Legatos to allow the player to be always in phrase.
This mood is very expressive yet flexible, ideal for mid tempo pieces.
Leans heavily towards faster legatos and is ideal for faster paced energetic pieces in higher dynamics.
Leaning towards a feathery performance with a nice but not over pronounced slur and slower paced
legatos, whilst still allowing for faster paced parts.
