Introduction
 The site visit of the precast construction and Times City Project were
organized by the respective engineers, project manager and supervisors on
21st October 2019.

 The location of the precast site visit was at North Dagon, Yangon and Times
City was between Hantharwady Road and Kyun Taw Road, Yangon.

 The agenda of the visits consist of in-depth explanation by the contractors,

engineers and consultants on the operations of the projects.

 At the end of the session, there was a questionings and answering session
between the students and the hosts.
5
Objectives of study
1. To get experiences and learn more about construction site that will face after
entering construction site.
2. To know about the process of precast construction and buildings complex
construction project by observing a real example of working space.
3. To understand about construction technology of buildings and different
methods of constructing.
4. To get more information and experiences from site engineers working at
construction site.

Theory
Precast Construction
 Concrete Elements, cast and cured in a manufacturing plant, transported
to the construction site and lifted to the place.

Precast Concrete Construction Process
1. Production of reinforced cages and main connections

2. Assembly of molds

3. Mix being poured

4. Compaction of concrete using poker vibrator

5. Precast concrete being moved to the storage area

6. Storage of high-quality units in works area

7. Transport to site

8. Erection at site
9
Types of Precast Construction System

10
Methods of Attachment of Precast Members
Two types of attachment…

Welding
Plate Rebar and
grouting

Figure (2) Welding Plate Figure (3) Rebar and Grouting

11
Advantages

1. Construction in less time

2. Fire resistance and low cost

3. High quality because of the controlled condition in the factory

4. Easy installation

5. Durability

6. No need plastering work

12
Disadvantages
1. Skilled labors are required in the application if the panel on site

2. Heavy machines such as cranes are required to lift panels

3. Need more workspace for cranes

4. Handling difficulties

5. If not properly handled, the precast units may be damaged during transport

6. Difficult in modification of the structure

7. It is difficult to produce satisfactory connections between the precast members

13
Pile Foundation
Bored pile, also called drilled shaft, is a type of reinforced-concrete
foundation that supports structures with heavy vertical loads. A bored pile is a cast-
in-place concrete pile, meaning the pile is cast on the construction site.

Site Visit
(1) Precast Concrete Construction Site
 The site is under construction by the Myanmar V-Pile Group.

15
(1) Transportation of precast from industry
The precast elements should be delivered with supports and frames
to prevent in transit damage.

16
(2) Installation of precast panels using cranes
The precast panels are installed using suitable machines.
The precast panels are installed in the case of large panel system.

17
(3) Shear keys
The shear keys are important because they are capable to transfer
the shear forces.

(7) Propping of precast panels after installation
The panels must be braced and supported during installation to ensure
proper alignment and until permanent structural connections are completed. All
temporary propping requirements must be shown on the erection drawings.

(1) Explanation of contraction joint by the Engineer
The width is about 1 ft and getting narrow to the inner direction. The
purpose of the contraction joint is to allow for horizontal movement while being
rigid against rotational and vertical movements.

Discussion
1. Site visited to Precast Concrete Construction and Times City Project on 21st
October, 2019.

2. Experienced about precast, high-rised R.C building and modern

construction techniques.

3. In precast construction site, the molding process is important for specific

panel dimension but it hasn’t been seen because of insufficient time.

4. It’s a big challenge for such a big project as Times City Project in concern
with the great management for the whole project.

34
Conclusion
This site visit has many advantages for students as the
precast construction could be widely used for the increasing population
and economic blooming in the future.
