Group counseling Session 4 Experience

I welcomed thanked members for continually coming for the group sessions and
recorded attendance for members presented
I asked a volunteer for an ice breaker before we started our session.
Revisited the group rules with an emphasis on confidentiality, attendance, and
participation.
Informed the members that this is our fourth meeting and we have two more
meetings to end our therapy.
We had a recap of the previous session with the focus on symptoms of depression and
anxiety and the triggers.
I reviewed the group members' week using the burden scale checklist with emphasis
on symptoms that were improving and showing empathy to those still hurting with the
scale (heavy burden).
I requested those whose scale was 3 and above to share what they were going through
in detail for the group on what was giving them that heavy burden.
After the sharing of the burden scale with the members, I introduced new trigger
loneliness as a cause of depression and anxiety.
We discussed the different causes of loneliness, ranging from moving to a new area,
death of loved ones, divorce, and separation, but also low self-esteem can also cause
loneliness. We went further linked the effects of loneliness in life to both physical and
mental health.
I tasked members to come up with solutions to people who are lonely and how they
can be helped and how those who have experienced it how they managed to get out
of it.
In the group, I noticed two new members who had come with their friends who are
part of the group. I welcomed them, but I also noticed I didn’t specify the nature of
the group whether it would be a closed or open group. That was a lesson for me that
in the next group I work with I need to be clear from the start about the nature of the
group.
Otherwise, the session went on well and the members are freer with each other and
making a strong bond than before.
