maniac puppet of the Kremlin that oppresses its own people, that truly doesn´t care for human rights or so-
mething like rule of law. One that threats and arrest journalists in large numbers. One that calls anyone who
opposes him, whether they are demonstrators, opposition members or NGOs, a traitor or a spy of the West.
One that flies in migrants to purposefully create uncontrolled refugee flows, presumably to retaliate against
previous sanctions against him. Whose argumentation level lies somewhere between conspiracy theorist

and Twitter troll. One that would be absolutely trusted to engage in a military confrontation. Besides Lukas-
henko, even the most clichéd James Bond villain turns pale.
When confronted with all these accusations, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko always resorts to rheto-
rical strategies, which he might have learned from Putin, his big brother, protector and greatest ace up his
sleeve against the West. These rhetorical strategies have proven to be very effective against other heads of a video from the playlist:

state, the EU, the UN, and basically anyone he has to answer to who questions him: The twisting of truths,
the discrediting of the other person, Whatabouttism on an almost Olympic level, or simply but effective: Just
lying. Lukashenko, demonstrably and by his own admission, is not playing by the rules of the EU; by the rules
of “the West” (One of his favourite enemy images), which he hates so much.

criticized by Brussels, and on the other hand, the EU strengthened Poland and the other affected nations to
protect the external borders.

Once again, we can watch the inability of the EU to stand up to the unrighteous states of Belarus and Russia
– but against the backdrop of migrants camping and dying at its external borders for weeks this makes it far

have broader powers when it comes to accepting asylum seekers and of course sanctions were imposed on
Minsk (once again). This time, however, they were aimed specifically at preventing the entry of refugees.
Among those sanctioned are Belarus‘s state-owned tourism company, its state-owned cargo carrier, five
entities linked to its defence sector, and a number of individuals with close ties to Lukashenko, including his
middle son. It remains the case, however, that it can be assumed that Lukashenko couldn´t care less about

the sanctions. In case of doubt, it is only his own people who suffer. Oh, and of course the NATO and the EU
condemns his actions. Sanctions and condemnation - Sword and Shield of Europe. Meanwhile, Lukashen-
ko, in turn, has announced that he would like to escalate the conflict further and will use „harsh asymmetric
measures“ against the sanctions.
