Technical Training Module
CS Imaging 8 online training is a prerequisite for classroom training sessions
on the CS Dental line of equipment. At the end of this online module, a test
of knowledge validations will be submitted and a score of 85% of correct
answers is requested to validate the training. This training lasts
approximately 1:30 hours. Training can be interrupted and resumed at any
time.

‐On the right side, we present the use of CS Imaging 8.0.0: Note that the
acquisition E / O (Extra‐Oral) and I / O (intra‐oral) can be performed directly
from the Patient Browser. From the Patient Browser we can open the 2D
viewer imaging, where the acquisition can be performed for all products.
‐CSDM Lite and Monitor are programs in the background that keep the
Patient Browser running.
‐The new database from CSI 8 cannot be shared with previous Imaging
software version (KDIS / DIS and CSI 7) due to CSDM Lite improvement –

Patient database architecture – Patient File Mode
When CS Imaging 8 is installed on a PC where DIS was previously installed, the previous Patient database is not modified for
existing patients (patient created before the installation of CSI 8) . For more details, refer to TechNews TN#252 on Infotec
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Carestream\DB
Architecture of the patient base. The patient database is identical to DIS
except for a folder named ".csi_data" which has been added to the root of
the database folder and for each patient folder. This directory contains
thumbnails of the gallery

I. CS Imaging 8: Overview
Patient database architecture – Patient File Mode
When CS Imaging 8 is installed on a PC where DIS was NOT previously installed and for newly created
patient with CSI 8, the Patient database architecture is not similar to a DIS Patient database architecture. It is
a CSDM Lite Patient database architecture.
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Carestream\DB
Patient database architecture:
The patient base presents a new architecture.
When CS Imaging 8 is installed on a computer where DIS or / and CS Imaging
V7 have never been installed:
The architecture of the patient database is different from the DIS patient
database.
We obtain the architecture of a patient database CSDM Lite.
Each patient is represented by a folder named GUID ‐ which means Global
Unique Identifier.

Warning: By default in DPMS mode, the CSDM Lite database is in C drive.
The CSDM Lite patient list is not synchronized between all PC ‘s( When
opening CSI in stand‐alone, the patient list is not the same on all PC)
Guidelines for installation
•If the user does not open CSI8 in stand‐alone and DPMS is always
working => No configuration required
Otherwise, it is recommanded to set the CSDM lite database path in all
CSI 8 PC to an image server location so that the local CSDM Lite
database becomes a shared one.

ITEM Recommandations
General Although a image server might look no different from a high-end desktop PC, the
Image server image server shall be designed for very different tasks.
requirements A desktop computer is designed for one person who needs a user-friendly operating
(applicable to all file system to run desktop applications.
share) The image server makes it easy for your CS Imaging users to share data and
collaborate, since it operates as a central repository for all of your images.
Warning : Having a undersized image server will slow down your CSI application.

It is necessary to differentiate 2 cases:
as part of a new installation or as part of a system upgrade.
For a new installation, the installation path is: C: \ program files (x86) \
Carestream
For an upgrade, the directory already used will be selected automatically so
no need to uninstall previous version to upgrade to CSI 8

Select CS Link if a Third DPMS is used instead of the Carestream Patient browser
VDDS is a bridge between Third DPMS and CS imaging software (Used in Germany only)
During the installation procedure, it is necessary to deal with the case where
a DPMS is used by the customer.
For France, the DPMS is Trophy Gestion. DPMS stands for: Dental Practice
Management software => This is the manufacturer’s patient management
software. In this case, click "Yes" to the question about configuring a DPMS
and then choose CS Link.
You will need to refer to the CS Link configuration manual.
Note: VDDS is a gateway between CS Imaging and a third‐party DPMS =>
VDDS is used only in Germany.
If no third DPMS is used then click “No”
