FUEL SYSTEM

The fuel system is designed to mix air and fuel in the engine
for combustion. Thi air and fuel mixing should produce
an efficient combustion process. If the fuel system is
not operating correctly, the engine will run very rough, lack
power, or perhaps not run at all. In today·s engines, many of
the components found in the fuel system are computer controlled.
Familiar components in the fuel system include:
..... Fuel
..... Fuel tank
..... Fuel lines
..... Fuel pump
..... Fuel filter
..... Fuel injectors or carburetor
..... PCM or electronic controller
A vehicle’s fuel system comprises components
that deliver fuel from the tank to the engine,
including a fuel pump, fuel lines, a fuel-pressure
regulator, fuel filter and fuel injectors.

Fuel system components are built to last, so the

fuel filter is the only part that’s likely to require
replacement on a schedule.
The basic symptoms of any type of vehicle
fuel system that is showing signs of wear or
deterioration are:
 Difficult Engine Starting
 Slow or Hesitation at Acceleration
 Stalling While Driving
 Intermittent Power Loss
 Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon
Light Illuminated
 Engine Idling Rough
 Excessive Engine Smoke
 Noticeable Fuel Odors
 Decreased Fuel Economy
