AN ACT TO ENHANCE THE MOBILITY OF DISABLED PERSONS


BY REQUIRING CERTAIN BUILDINGS, INSTITUTIONS, ESTABLISHMENTS
AND PUBLIC UTILITIES TO INSTALL FACILITIES AND OTHER DEVICES.

2. Ramps/Dropped Curbs

These facilities must be constructed carefully to


give PWD’s convenient access to elevated
areas; the slope should not be too steep so as
not to require them to exert special efforts during
usage.
Standard Requirements

• Gradient not steeper than 1:12


• Located at/near the main entrance; not dangerous to user
• Minimum clear width of 1.20 m (ramps), 1.5 m (dropped curbs) and
0.90 m (curb cut-outs)
• Maximum length of 6 meters; landing of 1.50 m
• 0.10m zocalo on both sides
• 1.80 m minimum length of level areas on top and bottom of ramp;
1.50 m for curb ramps
• Handrails (with full grip of 38-45 mm diameter) on both sides of
ramps at 0.70 m (bottom rail) and 0.90 m (top rail) from finish floor
level; with 0.30 m extension on top and bottom
• With standard pavement signage
