How is Job design being impacted and

change due to new technology
What are the impact on job design by new technology both
positive and negative?/

Pros:

 Advance technology has now equipped so many employees so they can

easily collaborate with their fellow colleagues across the files by sharing
files, video conferencing and emailing. This has facilitated companies to
globalise, and hire talent from across the globe.

 Computer programs, intelligent robots, and devices with artificial

intelligence can perform an increasing variety of tasks with increased
technical skills that come with benefits such as improved safety, lower
costs, higher quality, and environmental sustainability.

 Advance computation and technology has enabled employees to perform

big data analysis with the help of multiple tools. This allows employees
to focus on jobs require cognitive skills rather than basic information
processing jobs.

Cons:
 Effective technological changes has put many traditional human related
jobs and functions in manufacturing and even white-collar work in
jeopardy, because of machine’s effective and efficient way of doing
things.

i.e In Japan, the Fanuc Corporation’s 86,000-ft2 factory has only four

workers running the operations, rest of the plant is automated and doesn’t
even required human presence.

 Clerical tasks that were of repetitive and predictable nature are mostly
replaced by computers. As a result, there were several middle level jobs
that are being eliminated.

 Even after technological advancement, the technology requires high

number of technological knowledge and constant knowledge to handle
such complex machinery, so there’s a factor of on –going learning
involved now to match the pace with technology. So there’s lack of
motivation among employees to adopt each and every technological
change.

 Computer and robots lack some most important social skills that includes
empathizing, inspire, listen, communicate, and use intuition. Use of
technology in all aspects has negative effect in places where social skills
are required.
