NOT AN EASTER BUNNY

Tommy was a round,
white and fluffy little bunny.
He went to school everyday with his brothers.

He learned how to hop,

he learned how to run,
and how to find the best cabbage to eat.
The little bunnies started to grow,
It was time for them
to decide on a job.

Tommy’s brothers
had already decided:
“I want to be an Easter Bunny, like our papa.”
“I want to be an Easter Bunny, like our grandpa.”
“I want to be an Easter Bunny like our great-grandpa.”
They all wanted to be Easter Bunnies,
like their great-great-grandpa
and their great-great-great grandpa
and all their grandpas.

But Tommy wouldn’t say a word.

His parents would ask.
His brothers would question.
“And you Tommy? What about you?”
“Well,” he would say “I don’t know what I want to be.
But I know what I don’t want to be: an Easter Bunny”
His dad was shocked.
His mom was appalled:
“OOOOOOOHHHHH!”

Tommy made a bunch of friends.

the Hummingbird Flo,
Lilly the Butterfly,
and Buzzie the Bee.
“That’s unheard of!” his brothers would say.
His parents would complain:
“A bunny must have a job!
Where will he end up!”

“Don’t worry.” Tommy said.

“I’m training for a great job.”
“Only if he’s learning how to fly.” Tommy’s parents said.
“Only if he’s learning how to buzz.” his brothers snickered.
Tommy just laughed and left,
Hopping and hopping,
To see his friends.

Time went by fast.

Easter was just around the corner.
Mommy and Daddy Bunny went to buy Chocolate Eggs to give away.
But all the factories were overwhelmed with orders.
They didn’t have any Eggs left.
Everywhere they went
the answer was the same:
“We’re sold out,
we don’t have any eggs left.”

The Bunny couple went to every factory in the forest.

To Mr Larry,
To Mr Gary,
To Mr Benny,
To Mr Kenny,
To Mr Ron
And to Mr John.
But the answer was still the same.
“We’re sold out Mr Bunny, we’re sold out.”
They went home feeling upset.
“Oh My, this has never happened before”

“We can’t disappoint the kids…”

“But we’ve already been to all the factories,
There’s nothing we can do…”
The Bunny’s brothers were sad.
“Our first delivery... How disappointing…”
Tommy arrived with Hunny.

“Why don’t we make the eggs ourselves?”

”Because we don’t know how!
Easter bunnies deliver eggs.
They don’t make them.”
“Well, I do.” Tommy said. “I know
how to make them.”
“Does he?” their dad asked.
“He said he does!” the brothers said.
“He knows! He knows!” said the mom.

“And who taught you?” They all asked.

“My friends did!
I told you I was training for a job, didn’t I?

I learned how to collect pollen

from the flowers with Lilly and Flo.
And Buzzie is the best baker in the world.
She taught me how to make all kinds of desserts.
The Bunny family’s house turned into a literal factory.
Everybody was helping: Dad Bunny, Mummy Bunny, the Little Bunnies…

And so were their friends:

Flo, the hummingbird.
Lilly, the butterfly.
And Buzzie, the best baker in the world…
And Tommy was in command of everything.
When Easter finally came around,
everybody was ready.
The Easter baskets were done.

And Tommy’s parents were very happy.

Tommy’s mommy said:
“Our son finally has a job”

And his father said:

“Each person should find their true calling”
