RATIONALE
There are types of numbers which are prominent in the lore of mysticism and these are called as
amicable numbers. The term "amicable" comes the latin word amicus, meaning a "friend" and Mathematicians
say that two positive integers are amicable or friendly if each of them is equal to the sum of all proper
divisors of the other, including 1. Proper or aliquot divisors are all positive integers of a number, excluding
itself. The first amicable pair are 220 and 284, discovered by the Greek mathematician , Pythagoras. The
proper divisors of 220 are 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 11, 20, 22, 44, 55 and 100 which sums up to 284, whereas the divisors of
284 are 1, 2, 4, 71 and 142 and if added together will give a total of 220. It can be seen that each amicable
number has the power to generate another, thus symbolizing mutual harmony, perfect friendship and love.

The goal of this investigation is to uncover, explore and make conjectures on the different amicable
number pairs that will contribute in extending the knowledge of students about this fascinating mathematical
concept.
