• Ic=moment of Inertia of the column
• Lc=unsupported length of the column

• Lg=unsupported length of a girder
COMPRESSION AND BENDING
BOTH AXES
When the end of the column is:
HINGED: Gb=∞ (theoretically) ; but take
“Gb=10” for analysis.
FIXED (Rigidly attached to the footing):
Gb=0 (theoretically) ; but take Gb=1.0 for
analysis.
DESIGN PROCEDURES:
• 1. Get values of Mxa, Mxb, Mza, Mzb and Pu.
• 2. Trial Section and its properties. (For columns and attached girders)
• 3. Find Ga and Gb (along x and z).
• 4. Find the k-factors (along x and z).
• 5. Solve for Fa.
• 6. Solve for fa/Fa ≤0.15 or the other way around.
• 7. Solve for fbx and fbz.
• 8. Solve for F’ex and F’ez.
• 9. Solve for Cmx and Cmz.
• 10. Check for magnification factor.
• 11. Solve for Fbx and Fbz.
• 12. Check the interaction Equation if safe.
