Two loud knocks interrupted the funny youtube video I was watching

on my TV. Why would it be the driver when it’s this late at night? What
does he want anyways? What if it wasn’t him? All of these fears and
thoughts rushed through my mind in a matter of seconds.

My dad rushes towards the door with a confused look on his face.

“Uh, yeah. So what do you need exactly??” My dad confusedly

muttered as I heard him say that when I was jogging towards the door.
When I reached there, I could tell that the driver’s legs and arms were
shivering, His eyes were twitching, and He looked like he wasn’t able
to stand up normally. I was so confused about what was happening. I
knew something wasn’t right.

“M-m my wife is sick and she is in the hospital. Recently, doctors said
that she has leukemia. My daughters are taking care of her, but I need
to book a flight as soon as possible so that I can see her.” He was out
of breath. My dad asked for more detail so I politely left since it could
take long for the conversation to end. Knowing that his wife had
leukemia was enough for my brain to be knocked out temporarily for
the next week, thinking if she was going to be fine, which I doubted.
That sounds negative, but that was what really went through my head.

As more seconds over hours over days go by, my driver’s stay, here
at Saudi, had significantly shortened until we had to say goodbye.

“Ok, let’s all hope that everything goes fine and nothing major is going
to happen,” I say.
“We wish you the best,” my dad had explained as we waved goodbye
for the last time ...??

“Sooo, what now?” I stated. “Who’s bringing us to school everyday?”

“Don’t worry about it. I'm going to bring you guys to school even
though I have work right after.” He replied.

EVEN more time passes by, and we get a call from none other than
our dad. He started to talk about the driver. He said that the driver
wasn’t able to even see his wife before she died. (This news
happened around 1:00 AM of that day, to be more exact). Me and my
brother just stood there, speechless, How one ordinary day turned into
the most serious day of our life. We wanted him and his daughters to
rest. If he never wants to come back, he shouldn’t be pressured to
come back at all. I felt extremely guilty that I never saw his wife. After
that, my brain felt like it was exploding because I felt so bad. With
nothing to make this day worse, I would say that this day was hands
down, the worst day of my entire life.

Yep, you guessed it. 3 months after all of that, my family and I came
back from Bahrain on a Saturday afternoon. I got out of the car first,
heading towards the house.

CHING! I unlocked the door with the keys, opened it, & There he was,
standing right in front of me, my dad, and my mom’s eyes. Time felt
like it was Slo-mo for a solid 2 seconds, then it went back to normal.

“Surprise!!!!,” My driver shouted with a loud voice.

Oh. My. God. It was amazing to see the driver that’s been with us for 6
years come back after such a tragedy.

“Wh-w-w-how-wh- what made you come back?!? I asked the driver. I

was so shocked and confused at the same time to the extent that I
wasn’t even able to talk normally.

“I just wanted to come back and see you guys and keep doing what
I’m best at, so I can pay for my daughters and support them. One’s in
11th grade and the other is in 9th so they are almost in university. I
also came for the fun of the surprise and for the reactions. By the way,
your dad knew I was here since early morning.”

“That’s so Amazing!” My mom bursts. “So welcome ba--

“WHAT??? So good to see you and what made you come back?!?!”
My brother cut my mom when she was speaking. He came in with a
bunch of bags, shaking his hand. Our driver had to repeat the same
thing he said to us.

Even though that lightened up my day, I couldn’t stop thinking about

the driver’s wife. I really want to go back in time and meet her at least
once or twice. Not even a facetime call, not even a normal call,
absolutely nothing. I wish I could spend my time more wisely next
time.
