Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions. (3x5=15)
I was born into a middle class Tamil family in the island town of Rameshwaram in the erstwhile
Madras state. My father, Jainu/bdeen, had neither much formal education nor much wealth;
despite these disadvantages, he possessed great inner wisdom and a true generosity of spirit.
He had an ideal helpmate in my mother, Ashiamma. I do not recall the exact number of people
she fed every day, but I am quite certain that far more outsiders ate with us than a/l the members
of our own family put together.
(Dr APJ Abdul Kalam)

Banaras (Varanasi) has always been a centre of learning and even in Buddha's days, it was old and
known as such. It was in the Deer Park at Sarnath near Banaras that Buddha preached his first
sermon; but Banaras does not appear to have been at any time anything like a University, such as
existed then and later in other parts of India. There were numerous groups - consisting of a teacher
and his disciples, and often between vital groups there was fierce debate and arguments.
