For my advocacy project I decided to discuss the topic of education. More specifically

the inequality children face when it comes down to receiving high-quality education. Children of

color and lower income families tend to receive lower quality education. All children regardless

of race, financial status, or disabilities should receive equal education as their peers. By ensuring

all children receive a high-quality education this will create a sturdy foundation to build upon as

they get further into their educational journey.

One of the advocacy programs for this issue is the Obama Administration. This

organization has fought to improve education for less fortunate students. They were working

with different states to ensure there was quality teaching in every classroom and to improve low-

performing schools. They also work on foundational formula grant programs such as schools

funded through Title I. They also work on distributing funds that support low-income and

disabled students to ensure they can afford to go into college. The Obama Administration also

released a package of guidance and resource materials to address the overuse of disproportionate

discipline rates for students of color and students with disabilities.

The other advocacy partner I found is called, The Education Trust. They work alongside

educators, parents, and student across the nation to aid in transforming schools that serve all

students well. They also work to understand the gaps in achievement and opportunity and make

steps towards closing those gaps. The Education Trust are actively working to try and close the

gaps that separate students from low-income families, as well as students of color from other

students in America. They are also working to increase college access to groups of students who

are underserved in education.
