assign different tasks to the members. Thus, these abilities help in improving performance

of project.

Ans. SCHEDULE COMPRESSION- Schedule compression is that activity by which duration

of project schedule is shortens without put any effect on the scope of project, imposed dates and

other objectives and goals of project. We need schedule compression when there are delays in the

project due to following reasons-

a) Force majeure

b) Unavailability of resources

c) Unidentified risks

d) Unrealistic schedule
ASSIGNMENT CUM TEST-1

In the project, as a project manager I will adopt any one of the following according to the

situation to compress the schedule-

1) CRASHING- With the help of crashing one can find out which activities or tasks will be

shortened by adding additional resources. Project manager use various resources for

completing the project within short time period such as- arrange more material, labor,

provide overtime and incentives. Thus, it is also a good way of finishing the project in less

time period but crashing in project increases cost of project because in its manager add new

recourses for the early completion of project.

2) FAST TRACKING- Fast tracking is that technique of schedule compression in which

activities or phases are performed in a sequence of parallel. In it, both the activities go ahead

parallelly like you can start the next activity on the 66% completion of first one. Thus, this

method of compression increases the degree of risk in project beyond a limit due to

overlapping in activities but do not cause any increment in the cost of project.

Q4. Discuss at least 3 alternative scheduling methods.

Ans. ALTERNATIVE SCHEDULING METHODS- The following methods are considered

during scheduling-

1) CRITICAL CHAIN PROJECT MANAGEMENT (CCPM)- CCPM method of scheduling

was developed by “Eliyahu M. Goldratt.” It is that method in which project manager’s main

focus on the resources like- employees, tools, machinery and area required to execute the

different processes and tasks of the project. Critical chain project management helps in

completing the project without any delay with greater reliability.

2) AGILE PROJECT PLANNING- In the agile planning, project manager can easily estimate

the work with the help of self-contained work units. These units also called iteration or

spirits. Duration of spirits are of 1-3 weeks and team members focus on the completion of

them. Agile planning provide flexibility to the team members thus, they are able to estimate

the future and participate in the planning process of project.

3) ROLLING WAVE PLANNING- Rolling wave planning is that planning which depends

upon the phase of project and it may be plan after one or two weeks. This type of scheduling

technique is used when there is not more information to complete the schedule. In its

manager focus on the first part of the project in detail and later on give attention to the other

parts of project with high potential.

Q5. How do you find and deal with resource overloads in any project?

Ans. FINDING RESOURCE OVERLOADS- Following ways show the resource overload in

any project-

1) IF RESOURCES ARE ASSIGNED TO MORE ACTIVITIES- We can easily find out

over- allocated resources from the data which shows that resources are utilized in numerous

activities and these activities start and complete dates are overlap.

2) DIFFERENCE IN VALUES- The difference between the Assignment Unit value and

resource’s Max Unit Value also determines the resource overload as according to it if AUV >

RMUV than the problem of resource over-allocation exist in the project.

3) SETTING TIME SCALES- Apart from above mentioned, Project manager also set time

scales at the beginning of the schedule and move it towards end of the schedule slowly.

During movement analyze each cell value which shown in red.

WAYS OF DEALING WITH RESOURCE OVERLOAD- The following techniques are

used to deal with the problem of over-allocation of resources-

ASSIGNMENT CUM TEST-1

a) LESSEN SCOPE OF MORE ACTIVITIES- We can deal with resource overload easily

by reducing the scope of more activities in project because if there are numerous activities

than we assigned resources to distinct activities which create resource over-allocation.

b) REDUCE UNIT ASSIGNMENT- Always focus to reduce the assignment unit value

from resource max unit value to cover the over-allocation of resources and try to extend

the time period of activity.
