RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study explored the mental health of the students enrolled in a government

nursing institution during the COVID-19 pandemic and their mental health. This research

was designed to identify the health of students emotionally, psychologically and their social

well-being concerning the current problem faced all over the world COVID-19 pandemic.

This research applied Husserlian Descriptive Phenomenology, a widely used

phenomenological design to explore and describe lived experiences of individuals.

Phenomenology was chosen by the researchers because this enabled the researchers to

understand and give meaning to the informants' experiences. This method allowed the

researchers to set aside their perceptions of a phenomenon and focus on the informants'

experiences. In addition, Husserlian Descriptive Phenomenology involved verbalization of a

reflective analysis of the informants’ lived experience as meaning-giving intentionality. 

Research Environment

This study was conducted in a government nursing institution which is located in

Cebu City, Cebu, 6000 Philippines. CCMC-CN is in consortium with Cebu Technological

University, formerly known as the Cebu State College of Science and Technology. In 1974,

Cebu Normal University started consortium with the Cebu City Medical Center College of

Nursing. It is a semi-public school that offers a college degree in the program of nursing for

the aspiring nurses that are residents of Cebu City. It is a budget-friendly institution for

nursing students that seeks to discipline and hone the abilities of every student in the

institution. With their preparation and perseverance, the university made an excellent record

in the nursing licensure tests.
