TASK OR SOCIAL ROLE.

Indeed, there are cases where men are doing feminine task or social role nowadays.
These cases are typically common on married men wherein their wives or married
women work for the family. Especially to the known as the Overseas Filipino Workers.
The term “house husband” is a new trend in the society that women is working abroad,
or she is the bread winner of the family. The result of this was men or married men is in-
charge of taking care of their children, the ones who cooks, washing the dishes and
clothes. They are also the ones who will focus on different activities such as attending
school meetings (PTA, and other school related activities). He is also in-charge in
budgeting and doing also feminine acts in the family.

Some men accept this kind of family set-up but other men reacted negatively about it.
According to some research I have read, this set up, men seem to be trampling on their
manhood when they do activities only for women. As men should be the “worker of the
family”, they should work for the family. In addition to this, there was a “role pressure” to
both men and women which can result to “work-home conflict”. This conflict has a big
impact in the sustainability or to maintain the compactness of the family members
especially to children. On the other hand, there are men who accept the situation where
they do the housework. The sad part of it, there are men who go through anxiety
because of the judgment they receive from other people.

In this modern time, masculinity is important and cannot be deny but I think, to minimize
pressure among men and conflict on both sides, the value of “respect” and open-
mindedness play an important role. To married men and women, communication
Talking and expressing thoughts to each other will ease the bond between husband and
wife. Especially in finding work or in working abroad. On my own understanding,
comments and bashes of other people is not important. There no such issue when
communication to both sides where heard. It is okay to men working feminine task. The
important here is the family will become stronger. The bond between family members
will be strengthen.
