The BIRLA Professorial Chair in Asian Family Corporations recognizes the need to award research done

by students in the arena of Asian family businesses. These awards recognize research that can be applied
by practioners to address unique issues faced by Asian family businesses across various facets of the business. There
are three award categories: Bachelor’s thesis, Master’s thesis and Doctoral dissertation. The winners shall receive
their awards during the 2019 AIM Birla Asian Family Business Conference in Singapore where they will have the
opportunity to present the winning thesis or dissertation to the conference participants.

• Entries should be written and defended with
acceptance by the educational institution of the
student between 15 July 2016 to 15 July 2018.
• Papers should be submitted in PDF format in US
English. Use Times New Roman 12-point font
size, double-spaced, and have one-inch margins.
• The entries should include the full paper and
a copy in journal article format with a maximum
of 40 pages, excluding tables and appendices.
• These will undergo a blind review process, thus,
all identifying information should be omitted.
• Paper submissions should not have been entered
to another competition and/or should not have
been been awarded at a similar event.

1. A title file which should contain the following
identifying information:
a. Author’s name or authors’ names
b. Title of the submitted thesis or dissertation
c. Educational institution where the author/s
is/are currently studying
d. Author’s/authors’ contact details:
complete address, phone, and email
e. Scanned copy of the approval of thesis
or dissertation from their respective thesis/
dissertation defense committees.
f. The PDF copies of the submission should
be saved in the following format:
i. Full Paper Format
“Paper_Short Title of Thesis Dissertation_Date
Accepted (YYYY/MM/DD)”
ii. Journal Article Format
“Article_Short Title of Thesis Dissertation_Date
Accepted (YYYY/MM/DD)”
2. An abstract of 150 to 300 words that summarizes
the research question, research relevance,
and findings and recommendations. The abstract
should not have any identifying information.
3. A one-page recommendation letter from the
thesis/dissertation supervisor or advisor with
the supervisor or advisor’s contact details.
