Course Objectives: The Screen Arts Courses are aimed at giving introductory and intermediate knowledge
about all the Arts that are exhibited on Screens. A screen can be a movie theater screen, a TV screen, a
computer, or laptop screen or even a mobile phone screen.

This Course will encompass all the disciples taught at the Amity School of Film & Drama namely, Acting,
Live-Action Filmmaking and Animation Filmmaking. Inputs will be in the areas of:
- Acting Techniques
- Voice and Speech
- Movement (the body is the Actor’s instrument)
- Writing Plays
- Direction (Live-Action Filmmaking and Animation Filmmaking)
- Producing (Live-Action Filmmaking and Animation Filmmaking)
- Screenwriting (Live-Action Filmmaking and Animation Filmmaking)
- Cinematography
- Production Design
- Editing
- Sound Design
- 2D Animation
- 3D Animation
- Visual Effects (VFX)
- Comic Book design (Graphic Novels)
- Game Design
- Pre-visualization

The Screen Arts Courses (I, II, III and IV) are building block Courses that will lead a student from basic
understanding of all these Arts to an intermediate level of application of these Arts. Each Course will have
the previous Course(s) as pre-requisite(s).

Module I Introduction to Screen Arts

i. What is Screen Art?

Module II: Acting I

i. A comprehensive understanding of acting as a skill/technique/craft.


ii. Observing life with all senses and imagining known and unknown
periods and spaces.
iii. Detailed textual analysis and character analysis. Units, beats and
the objectives. Given circumstances, relationships, world and periods
of the story, objectives, obstacles and action of the character.
iv. Michael Chekhov Technique-Use various psycho-physical 30%
approaches to embody physicality and temperament of other living
beings from actor’s imagination and observations.
v. Like imaginary body, imaginary center and psychological gesture.
Psycho-physical connectivity – to make physical embodiment,
physical impediment, period, and style more organic and truthful.

Course Learning Outcomes:


At the end of this Course, students will have a basic understanding of the Screen Arts.
1. Students will be able to define what is a Story and Storytelling (Knowledge)
2. Students will interpret Storytelling using the body and voice (Understand)
3. Students will be able to interpret Storytelling using images and sound (Understand)
4. Students will be able to enumerate the personnel that are required to produce for Screens
(Knowledge)
5. Students will infer how an idea is Developed into a viable project. (Analyze)
6. Students will demonstrate increased confidence in front of an audience or camera. (Understand)
7. Students will be able to discriminate how the performance of an actor’s process may benefit other
areas (personal and professional) of their life. (Apply)
8. Students will be able to assess performances as an enduring and expressive human art form, and for
its value in the world. (Evaluate)
9. At the end of the Semester, students will create a project encompassing all the learning of the
Semester. (Create)

Professional Skill Development Activities (PSDA):


1. PSDA 1: Students will write a story based on their personal experience.
2. PSDA 2: Students will go through Observation study
3. PSDA 3: Students will create a stop-motion animation film
4. PSDA 4: Students will learn story telling through images.
5. PSDA 5: Students will create an inter-disciplinary Project using all learning

Pedagogy for Course Delivery:


Along with the theory inputs, this Course will be taught using tools such as screening of films, theater
performances, demonstration and use of various equipment and software to create for Screens. Field Trips
to various Theaters and Production Houses will round out students’ learning.
