Energy Trainers International
ENHANCING CCPP PERFORMANCE SEMINAR

Energy Trainers International (ETI) invites any interested Combined Cycle Power Plant
staff to participate in the following four-day technical training program:
ENHANCING CCPP PERFORMANCE
At the Gulf Hotel, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, December 19 – 22, 2021

Introduction
The cost of a forced outage that lasts only a day can cost over US$1,000,000.00 in today’s marketplace. This
places a tremendous burden on the operating staff and management of power generating plants. It also explains
why there is so much emphasis on improving the availability of generating units. Operator training is an
essential part of any program to maintain and improve plant availability as well as efficiency.
Providing effective training for the operating and maintenance staff of a power plant is a formidable task. There
are literally hundreds of systems, subsystems, and pieces of equipment that must be covered. There is no piece
of equipment in most plants which is more difficult to provide effective training for than the gas and steam
turbine generators. The size and complexity of gas and steam turbine generators, as well as the volumes of
information typically provided by the manufacturer on the equipment make training in this area particularly
challenging.
ETI has developed affordably priced, dynamic, and interactive seminars that are designed to address the training
needs of the power generating industry. ETI is uniquely qualified to develop and present such technical training
seminars. The ETI Instructor for these seminars has extensive experience in developing and presenting training
programs for combined cycle power plants on 6 continents. Our dynamic and interactive format includes a large
number of visual aids, including photos of similar equipment and systems. ETI training programs are
consistently rated equal to as or better than OEM training.

Description – Enhancing CCPP Performance 4 days Dec. 19 – 22, 2021

Seminar Number: 21973_01 Cost per student: US$1,900.00 Net
This seminar is a version of our very successful CC Performance Seminar training program, with an emphasis
on multiple exercises in performance calculations.. We are making this training available for those sites who
would like to provide training for operators who have never received formal CC Performance training, for those
who would like a refresher course and for those looking to broaden their knowledge of CCPP technology and
help discover ways to improve their CC plant’s performance.

This seminar is focused on improving the availability, reliability, capacity, and efficiency of the combined cycle
power plant. It provides operators and engineers with an understanding of plant design for performance and the
effect of operating parameters on plant efficiency and capacity. Practical thermodynamics, Brayton, Rankine
cycles, Psychrometric & Mollier diagrams are reviewed. Attendees are taken through practical combined cycle
thermodynamic principles. Emphasis is placed on the effect of design and operating conditions on plant
performance. Case studies of typical CCPP’s are presented and discussed to enable participants to extract
maximum benefit from the materials.
 This course requires the students to conduct a wide range of performance calculations in class,
therefore each student will need, to bring with them, a scientific calculator.

ENHANCING CCPP PERFORMANCE SEMINAR

At the end of this seminar, the attendees should be able to:

 Describe the Brayton and Rankine Cycles and their related performance parameters.
 Use the Psychrometric Chart in analyzing Evaporative Coolers.
 Use the Mollier Diagram.
 Calculate GT simple cycle heat rate and efficiency.
 Use vendor correction curves to analyze GT output.
 Describe typical GT performance considerations.
 Calculate GT compressor section isentropic efficiency.
 Describe typical HRSG efficiency, effectiveness and capacity.
 Calculate HRSG efficiency using both Input-Output and Thermal Loss Methods.
 Calculate HRSG Evaporator Pinch Point, Approach Temperature & Efficiency.
 Describe the impact of Combined Cycle Parameters on STG Cycle Heat Rate & Operator Controllable
Losses.
 Calculate ST cycle heat rate.
 Demonstrate the ability to use a Mollier diagram in analyzing ST performance.
 Take action to effectively optimize combined cycle plant performance.
 Use vendor correction curves to analyze CCPP output.
 Describe the typical start-up, operation and shutdown of a typical CCPP.

Each paid attendee will receive a copy of the ETI developed “Enhancing CCPP
Performance” Student Training Manual.

The students are expected to perform the assigned class exercises and calculations. To
perform the various class exercises, students must bring their own scientific calculator
and 30+ cm straight edge (for those exercises involving working with the ETI provided
Psychrometric Chart and Mollier Diagram).

Presentation format is a dynamic, interactive style. - This seminar is designed for Control Room Operators,
Shift Charge Engineers, Plant Engineers and Plant Management. Interested plant operators will also greatly
benefit from this seminar.
