2.1 Letter Production and Case History

Jill O’Connor presents at her GP’s clinic, Dr Michael Murphy (Provider Number 043789W),
Broadwater Medical Group, 6 The Avenue, Claremont 9000. The appointment is ‘urgent’ as Ms
O’Connor presents with severe abdominal pain.
Dr Murphy has dictated a letter and asked you to make an urgent appointment for Ms O’Connor to
see Dr Davis at Southern Ultrasound. Dr Davis’ clinic a copy of the referral letter as soon as it is
typed and has asked you to fax a copy directly to the office.
2.1 You read the letter and find it very difficult to understand what Dr Murphy has written. What
would you do?
Answer: I will speak to Dr Murphy and clarify some of the words and terms that I find hard to read
and understand.
How would you go about clarifying the task before you:

Answer: I will read the letter first and type a draft and show to Dr Murphy to clarify some words and
terms that is not clear before I finalise. To ensure I have everything covered correctly before giving it
back to Dr Murphy to check before faxing a copy.
