Alternative Courses of action

1. Report the fraud to the tax authorities and most likely lose her job.
- The most common outcome to this case would be for Laura to report Joseph and the company
to the tax authorities. There are but a lot of pros and cons for Laura if this was to happen since
not everything goes well for each side. If this were to happen, Laura would for sure be fired from
her job for telling on her boss Joseph and would find difficulty looking for another job since
other companies would see her as a very risky person to hire due to her history of being a
whistleblower. Regardless of the possible consequences that she would face thanks to reporting
her company, doing so is the right and ethical thing to do, since she would be helping reduce the
number of companies in the nation that perform fraud. So, to put it simply, if she was to report
her boss and his company, she would be helping lessen the number of fraudulent companies
while risking her job and future jobs in the process.

2. Don’t report to the tax authorities and become an accomplice in the process.
- Another possible outcome to this situation would be if Laura does not report her boss and turns
a blind eye to the situation, which sometimes happens in some businesses. If this does happen,
no one will find out about the fraudulent books and all the money that was supposed to be used
to pay the taxes will never reach their intended destination, which won’t really hurt anybody
since nobody knows. The only thing that the both of them should be afraid of would be if by
some sort of reason, the government were to find out about these books through other means,
both of them, Laura and Joseph would probably be sued or something. The only good side to this
would be the fact that Laura would keep her job, probably get a promotion or a raise for keeping
quiet and id nothing goes wrong, those books would be buried forever.

3. Resign from the company

- Probably the last option that Laura has in this situation would be to completely resign from the
company. In doing so, she does not have to deal with the stress of making a decision whether she
is to report Joseph and his company or not, which should give her a sense of relief. On the other
hand, she is left with no job and no source of income which she would use to support her family
for at least a few months while she is applying for another job, either a job in the same position
or some other job. Basically, in this fight or flight situation, in which the fight options were to
either report the company or not, she would choose the flight option and just run away from the
problem, which isn’t really a bad decision since she is saving herself from the problems that
come with telling on her boss or not, but that doesn’t mean running away doesn’t have its own
share of problems.
