Morning

meeting
With Ms. Gonzalez's 2nd Grade Class
Good Morning, Friends!
Welcome back to our classroom. As you come in make sure your put
your coats and bags away neatly. Once your things are put away,
come to the carpet for morning meeting. As usual, here are our
morning meeting rules:
1) Find a spot and sit down calmly.
2) Sit next to someone different than last time.
3) Sit down in a way that leaves room for your neighbors to sit
comfortably.
4) Keep your hands to yourself--be respectful towards your peers.
5) When I give the quiet sign, give it back to let me know you are
listening and ready to begin.
Greeting
Do The Wave!
Students will begin the meeting by gathering in a circle on the carpet. Once
everyone is seated and ready to begin, we will begin our greeting activity.
Today's activity is called "Do The Wave!" The purpose of this activity is for each
student to get a chance to be introduced and welcomed into the class with a
fun and happy energy.

The activity begins with each student standing with their arms extended to the
people standing on either side of them. I will choose a student go first; this
student turns to the person on their left and says, "Good morning, _____"
greeting them by their name. When this person this greets them back, they
raise their arms in a wave-like motion. The wave continues around the circle
until each student has been greeted.
Sharing

1 2 3 4 5
The purpose of this sharing activity is to talk about how the students are feeling. Doing this will give the students a
chance to express anything they are concerned, anxious, or even excited about. Students should focus on
demonstrating good social skills, such as attentive listening, providing helpful feedback, and showing empathy.

To begin this activity, I will show this mood scale and explain the meaning of each mood. Then students will choose
which one best represents the mood that they are feeling at the moment and hold up the corresponding number
with their fingers. Then I will ask the students to turn to a neighbor and take turns explaining why they chose that
mood. Students should actively listen and engage in conversation with their partner.
GroupActivity
Simon Says!
The purpose of this activity is for the entire group to participate in a lively activity together
before calming down with morning message. This game is a good chance for them to
have fun and get some energy out, but still stay attentive to instructions.

To begin, I will give an example of something Simon might say. Once the difference
between when to copy and when not to copy is explained, I will choose a student to be
Simon. They will give instructions and any student that follows the command when they
are not supposed to must sit down. The game continues until one person remains or the
teacher ends the activity.
Morning message
Today's morning message is about our goals for the day. I will remind
the students what lessons we are continuing and which lessons are
new. I will also take this time to address any issues the class might
have had the previous day (not paying attention, being unkind, etc.) as
well as any successes they had the previous day. I will end the
meeting with this message for the students:

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you
have."
